Question[edit]

Hi, I wanted to make a campaign box template, can I make it in my sandbox, do I need to make a page for it? Do I need to ask a template editor? — Preceding unsigned comment added by BruhOfficial (talk • contribs) 19:49, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@BruhOfficial: Your sandbox is for things just like that, no need for a template editor because your sandbox is not template protected. Hope this helps. Cheers, - FlightTime (open channel) 19:57, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How to request attention/edits from a template editor[edit]

There are several reasonable requests for edits at Template talk:Infobox law school, a template that is protected but apparently is not watched by many people. Other than using the standard edit protected request template, is there an appropriate way or place to draw the attention of editors who have permission to edit the template? ElKevbo (talk) 05:42, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Specifically drawing the attention of Template Editors, not really; {{TPER}} is probably the quickest and easiest way of getting requests handled. Primefac (talk) 10:53, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@ElKevbo: most of the requests there require a non-trivial amount of work to implement, if the changes were implemented in a sandbox and {{TPER}} used they would probably be addressed in a timely manner. Elli (talk | contribs) 16:55, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can agree with that; nothing worse than "please change this thing" and it turns out to require two hours of sandboxing and head-banging (against a wall) to figure it out. Template editors should be a final check, not the start-to-finish editors. Primefac (talk) 22:01, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just a question...[edit]

At the WP:RMT, we get some requests where articles (proposed target or perhaps the existing name) are protected so that template editors or admins only can move them. A page mover cannot generally do it. I guess when there is an established page-mover who understands the move related policies and guidelines, there should be no problem in granting them the right given that they are already well-versed in moving. Currently, the criteria for granting this flag is all about experience with template editing etc. I'd like to hear from others on this. Best, ─ The Aafī (talk) 11:57, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I personally would not grant template editor to a page mover purely so they can be a pagemover. Primefac (talk) 13:01, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In the rare instance that the page is protected, an edit request should work fine. Even though I am a template editor with hundreds of thousands of edits, I just submitted an edit request to fix a typo transcluded on the main page. It happens. Admins have always been happy to check these requests and take care of them. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:26, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95, @Primefac, thanks for your insightful input. Looks helpful to me. ─ The Aafī (talk) 11:28, 27 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Edit requests[edit]

There are quite a number of TPER requests building up in Category:Wikipedia template-protected edit requests if any template editors would like to help out — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:50, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've cleared the backlog for now. * Pppery * it has begun... 18:04, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Guidelines for granting[edit]

I am considering requesting this right, but how do I search for examples of #5 and #6? I've been a Wikipedian for nearly 20 years, and I think I've done some of those things, but I've no idea how to zero in on them, and I may have forgotten some things I've touched. You could use xtools to pull up a list of pages you've edited in the various namespaces, or look at your contribs and filter by namespace. Primefac (talk) 19:13, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - that's the obvious part of it. I probably should have said I can easily produce a list of work I've done in template space altogether. The issue here is winnowing down the results to what #5/#6 is looking for. I'd have to manually drill down. I've done 940 template edits, as well as loads of template-like editing in WikiProjects. I mean... #5 is just looking through your template-space contributions for edits to a /sandbox. If you've been making TPERs, then your edit summary will likely include mention of that (I believe the wording is Template-protected edit request on <date>: new section, though even just looking for "new section" might work). That should help narrow it down. Primefac (talk) 08:06, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
