The Department of History and the Department of Gender Studies at the University of Victoria are co-hosting an edit-a-thon on women's history, titled "Gender/Sex Activism of Yesterday and Today." The goal of this edit-a-thon is to celebrate Women's History Month by improving public access to information on past and present activists and movements focused on gender and sex. Join us on October 23, 2014 from 1:30 - 5:00 pm in Clearihue Building, Room B115, at the University of Victoria. Those who are new to editing wikipedia are welcome, as are participants from other departments and specialties.

Wikipedia is the western world's most popular online encyclopedia, but it is acknowledged that only ten to fifteen percent of editors are women.[1] This half-day event welcomes new and existing wikipedia editors. Participants will have access to helpful how-to guides and the session will begin with a brief introduction to wikipedia editing. Participants should bring a laptop to use during the event, and it would be useful to sign up for an account previous to the event. The event space will include some books for reference, but any materials editors can bring will be useful. Please note that pizza and snacks will be provided.

If you're not able to attend in person, you're welcome to participate remotely. To get started, see the links in the Resources section below.
