This page lists proposed article mergers as a supplement to the merge categories; it is an index of ongoing discussions of possible mergers, and does not replace any of the other steps in the merger process. Please add the appropriate merger tag(s) to the articles before listing them here. To see all articles marked for merging, see All articles tagged for merging.

Requests to split an article should be made at the Split Request Noticeboard.

Mergers of CATEGORIES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
Mergers of TEMPLATES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Templates for discussion.

How to propose a merger[edit]

There are three types of mergers on Wikipedia:

  1. mergers that are so obviously necessary and appropriate that no one is expected to object;
  2. mergers that would benefit from discussion with the other editors at the affected articles' Talk page about whether and/or how to perform the merge; and
  3. mergers that are either controversial or potentially difficult to carry out, and therefore need assistance from uninvolved editors in determining whether to merge the pages.

If the pages that you would like to merge fall into the type 1 group, then it is not necessary to propose a merger at all. You should boldly do the merger now, without formally proposing it. (In the event that someone unexpectedly objects, then the merger can be undone easily, and you can formally propose the merger for discussion at that time.)

If the merge falls into the type 2 group or type 3 group, or a formal discussion is needed or wanted, then proposing a merger can be done in three steps (as the proposer, you should still be willing to carry-out the merger in a type 2 article):

  • Step 1: Create a place for discussion. Go to the Talk Page (also known as the discussion page) of the TARGET ARTICLE (the one you want to merge to) and create a section (eg: "Merger proposal") to discuss the merger. If there's already a discussion on the talk page regarding the merger, you can omit this step. Whether the discussion is new or old, make sure the discussion section names all articles involved and links to them. The section name can be anything that includes the word merge (for example ==Merger discussion==).
  • Step 2: Put one of the merger tags at the top of the articles you wish to be merged. The templates {{Merge from}} and {{Merge to}}, or {{merge}} are the most common ones. Remember to make sure that the Discuss link in each tag points to the section you've created in step 1 (this is to prevent having two separate discussions on different talk pages).
  • Step 3: If the proposed merge is controversial or potentially difficult to carry out, follow the directions under #Requests for merge assistance and feedback to add it to the list.
See: Copy and Paste easy merge templates for easy to follow shortcuts of the above procedure.

Requests for merge assistance and feedback[edit]

If you need outside feedback regarding mergers that are either tricky or of a controversial nature, please do the following:

  • Tag the article as shown above
  • Create a discussion as shown above
  • Notify the talk page of the appropriate Wikiproject to get knowledgeable people to comment on it. (To find out which Wikiproject the page is associated with, check the associated talk page. It should be tagged with a template, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey.)
  • If there is consensus to merge, but the merge is difficult, contact Wikipedia Talk:WikiProject Merge for assistance.

For other topics:

  • If you need help with renaming or moving, consult Wikipedia:Moving a page.
  • Cut-and-paste move fixes: If you have merged an article by this method, then you need to request page histories to be merged; list them at requests for history merge. Please DO NOT perform further moves by cut and paste.

NOTE: Do not post here if you are not willing to do the merge yourself. We will provide you assistance in how to complete the merge if you are unsure how to do it. -Project Merge
NOTE: Please do not re-list old merge proposals that are already tagged and in the "to Merge" queue (including requests made up to two years ago), as these will be handled as we get to them. -Project Merge

Merge requests[edit]

NEW REQUESTS[edit]

If you need assistance with proposing a merge, list it below and someone will make sure it's properly listed. Note that this will not get the merge completed, as there is a large merge backlog. After a merge is listed properly, move it to the "Answered requests" or "Awaiting consensus" sections below as appropriate.

Please list new requests at the bottom of this section. Use the Edit Summary and list at least a link to the article to be redirected. Please legitimize your request by signing each listing or comment by typing four tildes (~~~~). Unsigned requests will not be honored.

Merge tenosynovial giant cell tumor, pigmented villonodular synovitis and giant-cell tumor of the tendon sheath. Initiating this merger discussion to ask the community for guidance on how to go about ensuring that tenosynovial giant cell tumor (TGCT) is accurately defined on Wikipedia. (NOTE: I am proposing this discussion for FleishmanHillard on behalf of Daiichi Sankyo. I am a paid editor and am aware of the COI guidelines.) Jon Gray (talk) 01:26, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

AWAITING CONSENSUS[edit]

After all involved articles are tagged for merger discussion, the request should be added at (or moved to) the bottom of this section. This section can also be used if a proposal needs further discussion due to age or disagreement. All merger comments and discussions should be directed to the Discussion subsection of the targeted articles' talk page, not here. We will also attempt to get more people to comment on proposals.

Merge North Caucasian Huns into Huns. North Caucasian Huns is a stub and only has one source I'd really consider reliable. I propose merging it to Huns. The vast majority of scholars believe that the North Caucasian Huns were descended from or closely related to Attila's Huns, including Denis Sinor, Peter Golden, Otto Maenchen-Helfen, and Jin Hyun Kim. There's no real reason to give them their own article. Additionally, the article currently falsely gives the impression that the North Caucasian Huns are the "Khunni" mentioned in Ptolemy.--Ermenrich (talk) 15:07, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

Merge New Zealand Democratic Party for Social Credit into Social Credit Party (New Zealand). These are two iterations of the same political party which have separate articles. Social Credit renamed themselves as the Democratic Party in 1985 but in 2018 reverted back to being the Social Credit Party. Merge White separatism to White supremacy, I have tagged White separatism and created the discussion section at talk:White supremacy but White supremacy is locked to prevent vandalism and I am asking for someone's assistance in applying the correct tag to that page. Thanks. 208.84.155.212 (talk) 13:14, 28 March 2019 (UTC) Merge White separatism to White supremacy - the basis given by the proposer, who could not tag one of the articles, is that " The vast majority of published news and research says that White separatism is part and parcel of white supremacy. The only objector seems to be Dobratz, but the article as written is giving her WP:UNDUE weight by representing her lone writings as being "Other scholars have argued that" which creates a false-balance fallacy." Merge Avar Khaganate into Pannonian Avars. Currently Avar Khaganate discusses the history of the Pannonian Avars, while Pannonian Avars seems to be mostly concerned with their ethnicity and culture. Therefore, I recommend that it be redirected to the "Gun ownership" page, which has a far more comprehensive and up-to-date list, taken from the June 2018, Small Arms Survey report. This list includes Estimate of firearms in civilian possession, Population 2017, and Estimate of civilian firearms per 100 persons. Comment: Merged articles where re-separated and the process reversed. Merging is now opposed. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 13:31, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

Merge Troy University at Montgomery, Troy University at Dothan, and Troy University at Phenix City into Troy University as there are four campuses, all of which should be listed in their own section within the main article instead of being separate as they all fall under the same accreditation and institution. — Mr Xaero ☎️ 05:05, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

Not done Should not proceed as other similar articles are handled that way. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 14:15, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Merge List of UTC time offsets into Time_zone#List_of_UTC_offsets. Both articles have the exact same thing. 2601:183:101:58D0:9C3A:41A8:F09D:1BC8 (talk) 22:56, 6 May 2018 (UTC)

Not done as consensus seems to disagree. Also, articles would be near 150K if combined. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 13:54, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Merge Dendrite_(metal) into Dendrite_(crystal). These both refer to the exact same formation in materials, which would make sense considering that on an atomic scale metal is a crystal in fact, which is why it exhibits crystalline growth 71.195.109.143 (talk) 3:19, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Not done No consensus or interest to merge articles at this time. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 13:54, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Merge Programmable_matter into Claytronics. Claytronics is an abstract future concept that combines nanoscale robotics and computer science to create individual nanometer-scale computers called claytronic atoms, or catoms, which can interact with each other to form tangible 3D objects that a user can interact with. Programmable matter is matter which has the ability to change its physical properties (shape, density, moduli, conductivity, optical properties, etc.) in a programmable fashion, based upon user input or autonomous sensing. According to this definition Claytronics is a type of programmable matter, but more theoretical/fictional. However it cites real examples, so it should go under programmable matter as a end point to destination. 71.195.109.143 (talk) 3:19, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Merge Changtu, Liaoning into Changtu County. They describe the same place and see This discussion please. Honoka55 (talk) 08:47, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Merge Swamp Democrats and Democratic Party of Arkansas. Even after a quick search, I failed to find enough reliable sources on the subject, which fails WP:GNG. It definitely doesn't warrant its own article and the only other place that I find this mentioned is my suggested redirect/merge target. Following the 2010 and 2014 elections, the AR Dems are an insignificant party, so an unofficial chapter of the party should just be merged to the actual party here. Merge Eric Forman, Jackie Burkhart, Michael Kelso, Steven Hyde, Donna Pinciotti, Fez (That '70s Show), Kitty Forman, and Red Forman into List of That '70s Show characters. The characters' articles have little to no reliable references are mostly plot, trivia, and fancruft. 74.89.41.7 (talk) 20:51, 29 July 2018 (UTC)

Merge Planetary objects proposed in religion, astrology, ufology and pseudoscience into Astronomical bodies in pseudoscience and the paranormal. The former is duplicative of the latter but is better written. The latter has a larger scope. 108.210.216.182 (talk) 18:07, 23 December 2017 (UTC)

Merge:

Merge KIF Kolding København into KIF Kolding. These two articles is about the same handball club. KIF Kolding was named KIF Kolding København for a few years before the changed their name back to KIF Kolding. If you look at the KIF Kolding article you will se, that there is a section under history about the years the club was called KIF Kolding København. So the article KIF Kolding København is just a part of og the KIF Kolding article and therefore should there only be one article: KIF Kolding

  •  Done – proposal was unsigned, but proposer has gone ahead and merged the articles anyway, so this proposal is moot. Richard3120 (talk) 14:25, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

I want to add the Wikipedia Irish language Vicipéid link for Cabra (Language: GA / Page: An Chabrach) to the Cabra Wikipeida EN page but I dont know how to merge it (I usually do know how to link to pages in general but the Vicipéid page is already listed as a label for this English language page and I don't know how to merge a second time although have tried.). Could somebody who knows how please do it? (Note GA is for Irish language as distinct for GD which is for Gaidhlig / Scots Gaelic- the Scots Gaelic version of the Cabra page links on the Cabra Dublin Ireland page and the Irish language version doesn't which is suprising). • Not done – this was actually more a technical request to add interlanguage links to a page, rather than merge two articles. This has now been solved and the proposer has withdrawn the request. Richard3120 (talk) 12:33, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
