Cannabis Indica

The following instructions were copied from mw:Extension:Title Blacklist.

The title blacklist is maintained as a system message MediaWiki:Titleblacklist.

This page consists of regular expressions, each on a separate line. For example:

Foo <autoconfirmed|noedit|errmsg=blacklisted-testpage>
Bar #No one should create article about it

There is no need to use "^" at the beginning and "$" at the end; these are added automatically.

Each entry may also contain optional attributes, enclosed in <> and divided by |

  • autoconfirmed — only non-autoconfirmed users are unable to create/upload/move such pages
  • noedit — users are also unable to edit this article
  • casesensitive — don't ignore case when checking title for being blacklisted
  • errmsg — the name of the message that should be displayed instead of standard

When the action is blocked, one of the following messages is displayed together with the filter row (as $1): titleblacklist-forbidden-edit, titleblacklist-forbidden-move, titleblacklist-forbidden-new-account or titleblacklist-forbidden-upload. Generic filenames have their own custom error message, MediaWiki:Titleblacklist-custom-imagename.

There is also MediaWiki:Titlewhitelist and a global title blacklist.

Only administrators, page movers and template editors can override this list on all actions. Account creators can override this list on account creations only.

Exception for Bayer designations[edit]

Bayer designations for stars in the constellation Boötes take the form of a Greek letter followed by the genitive form of the constellation name which is Boötis. Article titles consisting of a Greek letter in combination with non-latin characters are currently blacklisted. The star articles themselves are conventionally titled using the spelled-out form of the Green letter (eg. lambda for λ, lambda Boötis) but it is standard practice to provide a redirect from the name containing the Greek letter (eg. λ Boötis, especially useful for stars with proper names (eg. Arcturus). An exception would be helpful to allow this. If this could be general enough to allow derivations, for example λ Boötis star as a redirect to lambda Boötis star, that would be even better. Lithopsian —Preceding undated comment added 10:13, 24 August 2018

  • I'm guessing you hit the same blacklist entry I did - Latin + non-Latin. As a workaround, I believe admins can override the blacklist. Hairy Dude (talk) 02:17, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
There are potentially a whole bunch of redirects required, so it might be a bit much to ask of the admins. See Template:Stars of Boötes for a list of Bayer stars in that constellation (25 of them?), plus a handful of related classes. Lithopsian (talk) 13:18, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
If you provide a list of the 25 redirects (with targets) that you would like created, I will do it. — JJMC89(T·C) 02:58, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
Good news, several of them already exist. They're lower-case Greek letters, for what that's worth on a redirect. Lithopsian (talk) 14:23, 28 August 2018 (UTC)

ʻOkina again[edit]

I just tried to move Punalu'u Beach to Punaluʻu Beach, but I hit the following filter:

  • (?!(User|Wikipedia)( talk)?:|Talk:)\P{L}*\p{Latin}.*[^\p{Latin}\P{L}].* <moveonly> # Latin + non-Latin

If I'm reading this right, this bans titles that combine Latin and non-Latin script, but only when moving. This is bizarre - ʻokina is definitely part of the Latin script for Hawaiian. I note that this subject was brought up here previously (2012) but nothing was done. Hairy Dude (talk) 02:10, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

There's also a request at WP:RM/TR to move Keaweʻopala to Keaweʻōpala over a redirect, but I can't move it because it says the redirect is on the title blacklist. Station1 (talk) 19:29, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
done; template editors and admins can do it. I suppose it might be possible to add okina to the latin characters in that regex or add it to the Mediawiki:Titlewhitelist, at-least if this comes up often enough. Galobtter (pingó mió) 19:44, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
I encountered several okina moves last month. This is a problem because it required marking for administrator attention, but the moves were eventually completed. — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 22:14, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Remove the ʻOkina symbol from the pagemove prevention filter rule discussed above. — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 18:17, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

[V]arious apostrophe(-like) variants (’ʻ ʾ ʿ ᾿ ῾ ‘ ’ c), should generally not be used in page titles. That includes the ʻokina. — JJMC89(T·C) 20:57, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
I suggest you start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Article titles. If there is consensus that 'okina is acceptable for article titles, then we can get the rule removed here. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 14:43, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
The okina is widely used in article titles and there have been multiple technical requests to put the okina into titles, these were completed. Special:Permalink/855300030 is one such request. The okina is widely used in titles such as Oʻzbekiston Jumhuriyati, Oʻahu nukupuʻu, Oʻahu ʻōʻō, and others. — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 14:50, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
I've reactivated this request. The text quoted by JJMC89 is not definitive enough ("generally") to justify an entry in the Titleblacklist. The Titleblacklist is a "never" list, not a "discourage" list. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 10:15, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
@Jo-Jo Eumerus: please specific the exact change to be made, with line numbers if possible — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:52, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
Seems like we want to add ʻ to MediaWiki:Titlewhitelist to make this work. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 17:18, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
That wouldn't work - it'd mean exempting all articles that contain the okina from all rules; I've  Done the fix in [1]. Galobtter (pingó mió) 17:32, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

User pages[edit]

Foreign language user pages need to be blacklisted. For example, Luigi Catalani (talk · contribs) seems to be tring to create user pages for his students but is creating them in the Utente: namespace (which isn't a namespace on enwiki) so they end up as unwanted articles with silly names. The following prefixes (out of many, I haven't figured out how to quickly create a complete list) ought to be blocked from creation:

If I copy #17 and paste it into Ctrl+F, I find that it's identical to #16 and also to #12. Nyttend (talk) 01:42, 24 January 2019 (UTC)
Not done in addition to above, this is also not ready to add as if you could add it yourself. Of course this can still be discussed here, and when it is ready you can reactivate the request tag above. — xaosflux Talk 03:59, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

So here's our list. Assuming it's not hard to do the regex, is there any reason not to add them? I can't say there will never be a situation, but I can't currently imagine a situation in which we'd want to have an article begin with any of these phrases, and if there is such a situation, an ordinary "override the blacklist" request at WP:AN should work. Nyttend (talk) 23:04, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

Regexed list in syntaxhighlight block below (blank line ahead of section, leading space on each line, trailing wildcard .*). Explanatory comment added. Duplicates removed. Request reactivated.
syntaxhighlight is suppressing display of the leading blank line.

Deactivating - I've figured out how to get the complete list, starting from a list of wikis and the fact that they all recognise User:. This may take a while. Cabayi (talk) 10:23, 3 February 2019 (UTC)

 Done MediaWiki:Titleblacklist-non-English-userpage is the error message. — JJMC89(T·C) 19:09, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks JJMC89. I set up a list at Special:Permalink/881920122 to test the regex and a few slipped through...
which is my fault - Bru(ge|ka|ke)er should have been Bru(ge|ka|ke)r (final e needs to be removed)
does the - need to be escaped?
looks like I mistakenly removed from the regex when deduping - it looks very similar to Χρήστες which was caught. Regards, Cabayi (talk) 18:08, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
Done @Cabayi: For the hyphenated ones, the hyphen was missing above. — JJMC89(T·C) 06:38, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks JJMC89. All working now. Cabayi (talk) 08:44, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

casesensitive control characters[edit]

Hi!
Why are some of the control character patterns (such as \x{00AD}) marked as casesensitive? For performance reasons? -- seth (talk) 21:10, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

Safety reasons. There have been some unexpected encounters with case-folding that prevented titles containing the letter "k", or a space, or other common things. Adding the "case sensitive" restriction means that people editing the list don't need to think about the arcana of Unicode case conversion rules. --Carnildo (talk) 02:21, 30 March 2019 (UTC)

CARIFORUM-UK Economic Partnership Agreement[edit]

Hi! I'm trying to move the clumsily-named page UK-CARIFORUM (Trade Block)economic partnership to CARIFORUM-UK Economic Partnership Agreement but am unable as the title is apparently on the Titleblacklist. Could anyone help? Many thanks, Gazamp (talk) 18:32, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
