Edits bypassing the deadlink filter[edit]

It appears that linkspammers have learned that they can hide their dead link spamming from Special:AbuseFilter/711 by using web.archive.org to conceal their behavior. The filter currently intentionally does not flag replacing deadlinks with web.archive.org ... but, I saw in this edit that the user utilized web.archive.org to conceal their spam addition.

Not sure how widespread this is as yet, but I wanted to flag it here. Changing the edit filter could result in a lot of false positives; but leaving as-is allows linkspammers to hide their behavior from the filter. So, not sure the best solution here. Thoughts? --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 22:28, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

Remove the exclusion. It is a tag-only filter, and the tag does not accuse you of spamming, it just tells what happened in the edit - a dead link template was replaced. --Dirk Beetstra T C 03:45, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
From the edit history, it appears that Samwalton9 (talk · contribs) created the filter, and Rich Farmbrough (talk · contribs) edited the filter to add the exclusion, so I've pinged them both to view this discussion to get their input as well.
I'm okay with removing the exception, but I don't appear to have access to edit the filters at this time (odd, I thought I had that access in the past - something may have changed in the authorizations). --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 16:19, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
I didn't add the exclusion: I changed it from checking "added lines" to checking "added links". All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 17:48, 2 May 2016 (UTC).
Done. Additionally I made the filter private as I suspect they're aware of it given this avoidance tactic. @Barek: You just need to add the 'Edit filter manager' user right to yourself to edit filters; admins can only view by default. Sam Walton (talk) 18:49, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
I spend a bit of time monitoring deadlink spam, so it would be helpful if the filter remained public...-KH-1 (talk) 04:51, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
The log of hits will always be public, it's just the logic that gets hidden. MER-C 13:05, 5 May 2016 (UTC)

A website on moblie phone/tablet reviews and info, and I believe that Wasayy Khan is from Mobilesiri. His edit summaries are misleading; Wasayy replaced dead links with "relevant" ones that lead to the Mobilesiri website. -- Hounder4 17:52, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
