Administrator instructions

Welcome. Please note that this page is NOT for challenging the outcome of deletion discussions or to address the pending deletion of any page.
Shortcuts:

Requests for undeletion is a process intended to assist users in restoring pages or files that were uncontroversially deleted via proposed deletion, under certain speedy deletion criteria (such as maintenance deletions or rejected Articles for creation drafts), or in "articles for deletion" debates with little or no participation other than the nominator. This page is also intended to serve as a central location to request that deleted content be userfied or emailed to you so the content can be improved upon prior to re-insertion into the mainspace, or used elsewhere (you may also make a request directly to one of the administrators listed here). This means that content deleted after discussion—at articles for deletion, categories for discussion, or miscellany for deletion among other deletion processes—may in some cases be provided to you, but such controversial page deletions will not be overturned through this process. Copyright violations and attack pages will not be provided at all.

This page is only for requesting undeletion of articles or files which have already been deleted. If the article you are concerned about is still visible, but has a warning message (template) at the top, please do not post here, but follow the instructions in the template or on your talk page.

Note that requests for undeletion is not a replacement for deletion review. If you feel an administrator has erred in closing a deletion discussion or in applying a speedy deletion criterion, please contact them directly. If you discuss but are unable to resolve the issue on their talk page, it should be raised at Wikipedia:Deletion review, rather than here.

I, JanRodriguez, request the undeletion of this Articles for creation submission deleted under CSD G13. Please restore the page as I intend to work on it. JanRodriguez (talk) 16:02, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

Jordan Schweitzer[edit]

This article was deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jordan Schweitzer. I asked the closing User:Sarahj2107 to move it to draftspace, however she said that I should go to Wikipedia:Deletion review - however reading the guidelines over there, I think this is a more appropriate venue. The article is for a player who has been signed to the fully-professional team Seattle Sounders FC 2 playing in the United Soccer League listed in WP:FPL as fully professional; with the season starting shortly, it's very likely that this article will be recreated soon. I'm asking it be moved to draftspace rather than user space, as I'm not the primary contributor to the article and I don't want to discourage other contributors from helping to improve the article before the player makes a professional debut, especially as my editing is very sporadic. Thanks, -Nfitz (talk) 15:55, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

  • Well... the problem is that this was deleted via AfD and I'm hesitant to restore anything if Sarahj2107 has declined to move it to the draftspace like she did here. As long as she's fine with this, I'm OK with moving it to the draftspace. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:04, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
    • If your happy to move it to draftspace Tokyogirl79 then I have no problem with that. Sarahj2107 (talk) 10:11, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
  • @Nfitz: I've moved this to the draftspace. My only request is that this not be restored this without Sarah's consent. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:13, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Thanks. Though part of the challenge is to move it quickly if and when the player makes a fully professional appearance, before someone wastes time writing a different article. Does Sarahj2107 agree that it can be moved if Jordan Schweitzer does appear on the pitch (as opposed to the bench) for Seattle Sounders FC 2 (which could be as soon as Friday, when the season starts). Nfitz (talk) 01:16, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
    • @Nfitz: There is no huge hurry, if someone else creates a different article they can be merged. Once there is proof that he meets WP:GNG or WP:NFOOTBALL and the article is updated accordingly then its fine to move it. Sarahj2107 (talk) 07:54, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
      • Thanks. I just hate to see people wasting their time writing something new - and then someone having to spend time cleaning up the merge. Nfitz (talk) 02:18, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
        • PS. Even the team itself is reporting he'll make his pro debut on Friday [1]. Nfitz (talk) 02:32, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

  • @Kgkalay:X mark.svg Not done - this Requests for Undeletion process is only for articles that were deleted uncontroversially, and does not apply to articles deleted after a deletion discussion. Since the article you are here about was deleted after a discussion took place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yan Naing Oo, it cannot be undeleted through this process. However, if you believe that the outcome of the discussion did not reflect the consensus of the participants, or that significant new information has come to light since the article was deleted, you may contact the administrator who closed the discussion, user Davewild (talk · contribs). After you do so, if your concerns are not addressed and you still seek undeletion, a request may be made at deletion review. I may recommend you ask Davewild to userfy the article at DRAFT:Yan Naing Oo where you can work on it and hopefully through use of reliable sources prove they meet WP:NFOOTY or WP:GNG. African engineering[edit]

Afro engineering now exists as an article. If the content was at all useful or sourced, I request it be restored before I redirect the title to the new article about the term, so I can add any non-redundant material it contained to the target if appropriate. The deleting admin hasn't edited in about 10 years, so I came here instead of requesting this on their talk page. I'm also curious about the now deleted page history of "Nigger-rigging", and if there would be anything along the same lines there.-Godsy(TALKCONT) 08:10, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

  • At its maximum extent the page said: "African Engineering also know as "nigger-rigging" is a dorugatory term used to denote poor workmanship. The term is derived from mostly southern american states where blacks are predominatly less productive and have poorer quality standards than other races." as written by . 63.241.158.33 with no references or sections. Other version repeated the title or were just vandalism. For nigger-rigging the biggest content was "to nigger rig is to fix something in a crappy way; improvising another word for this is mickeymouse"; credit to 64.88.86.3; or "A slang term (usually considered derogatory) describing a hasty and careless method of work. Example sentence: "I fixed the door hinges today, but it won't last as it's nigger-rigged"" credit to 192.198.148.97; Again no refs or categories. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:48, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Alright, thank you both for checking. Godsy(TALKCONT) 12:43, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Trifacta[edit]

I believe my page was not promotional and only served as a factual page to educate audiences on the company. • Yes check.svg Done I have turned this into a draft at Draft:Trifacta. I have removed the highly promotional awards, and in-focus sections. • X mark.svg Not done This article was deleted because it was unambiguously promotional and a quick look shows that it was indeed written to promote Acharya. As far as claims of being the first of something, just saying that someone is the first to do something isn't enough since you'd need to back this up with reliable, independent sources that confirmed the claim. Things like that can be easily contested. For example, Facebook started as a social network for university students when it launched in 2004 and remained student-only for a number of years before non-students could join. Similarly, Unii launched in 2013. What I'm basically trying to say is that saying that someone is the first to do something isn't something that automatically gains notability. Also, it looks like you tried to make another version of this at Dhananjay acharya, so it's now up for AfD. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:03, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

File:Alexander Robertson.jpg[edit]

The image dates from 1895 and is in the public domain --- Rrburke (talk) 10:53, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

How do we know that? The imformation says "Robertson Family photograph albums", so was this image publisehd before, who was the photographer, and what is the evidence it was taken in 1895? What is the subject of the photo? We will need some answers to avoid another deletion. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:02, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
Hi, Graeme. Let me withdraw this request for the moment. I had thought that because no information is known about the photographer, that according to the UK's Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, the work would have entered the public domain 70 years after its publication, and that, as a never-published work, it would have passed into the public domain in the US 120 years after its creation, on January 1st, 2016 (See [2]). However, the owner of the photograph attests that the image has indeed been published in the interim since its creation, and I will have to establish when and where in order to ascertain its current copyright status. -- Rrburke (talk) 13:53, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
The photograph was published in the UK in Classic Boat Magazine in 2008. According to http://copyright.cornell.edu/resources/publicdomain.cfm , as a work published outside the United States after 1 March 1989 in a country that is a signatory to the Berne Convention, the copyright term is 70 years following the death of the author. Since nothing is known of the author, the term is 70 years after the creation of the image. The image entered the public domain in both the UK and the United States on January 1st, 1966, i.e. prior to its publication in 2008. As for the accuracy of the date of creation, we have the attestation of the photograph's owner. OTRS confidentiality precludes revealing more, but I am satisfied that the photograph's owner is in a position to know when it was taken. -- Rrburke (talk) 21:26, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
@Rrburke: Yes check.svg Done, I have restored it, removed the deletion tag, and added a public domain tag quoting you above. Please fix up the tagging and add the OTRS ticket to it. ~Amatulić (talk) 05:23, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

@Jax 0677: X mark.svg Not done. In view of the findings of WP:Articles for deletion/Rocky Allen (technician) I am not willing to userfy this. You could ask the closing admin, C.Fred (talk), but consider WP:BLPCRIME: "For subjects who are not public figures, editors must seriously consider not including material in any article suggesting that the person has committed, or is accused of committing, a crime unless a conviction is secured... Allegations, accusations, investigations, and arrests on suspicion of involvement are not a conviction" . JohnCD (talk) 23:13, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Samsung (disambiguation)[edit]

This was procedurally deleted per WP:G6 on 16 March because it's not a redirect to a disambiguation page. Unfortunately, Samsung(Name), from which it was originally moved, has now come up at RfD where to have the history of this page would be useful.

I don't necessarily need this undeleted but would like a full history of the page from now back to May-June 2007. At that time, Samsung(Name) was discussed at AfD and subsequently moved to it, with a recommendation to delete the redirect which was not followed through. I believe that Samsung (disambiguation) would have been a DAB when moved, but around 7 July 2008 would have been turned into a redirect to Samsung Group (my clue for this is a bot fixing a double redirect), which in turn was moved to Samsung on 12 May 2011.

I imagine that the content of the DAB was held to be sufficiently mentioned at the article Samsung (at that time, Samsung Group) so as not to need it; e.g. I presume there would have been an entry for Samsung Town, which is prominent in the article. But I'd like to confirm this as part of the RfD discussion.

If you undelete it, please put it at User:SimonTrew/Samsung (disambiguation), and I likely will CSD G7 after looking at the history. If you prefer, a copy-paste of the history dump would be just as good for me.

Thanks Si Trew (talk) 07:52, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

@Si Trew: Yes check.svg Done - I have put a copy-paste of the history, back to its creation in April 2007, at User:JohnCD/draft. • @Writemorerightmore: This was deleted as a copyright issue by Anthony Appleyard, however from what I can tell from the source material it looks like wiki.polskibreivik.pl has a fair use license. It's really, really hard to tell because the website has an extremely poor layout, likely due to broken html. However I will say that the article has a few issues with it, which I'll list as follows:
  1. The article's sourcing is fairly poor, as it relies on a lot of WP:PRIMARY sources like things written by Groulx or people/places/organizations affiliated with her. It also relies on e-commerce sites like Amazon, which are inappropriate as sourcing.
  2. Some of the article looks to be unsourced or isn't entirely backed up by the sources given. This is a huge issue on Wikipedia, since we need the sources to explicitly state the claims in the article. You can't draw your own conclusions from the source material like you could in a personal paper, which is one of the biggest differences between a personal paper/essay and an encyclopedia article. (WP:OR)
  3. Some portions are dangerously close to being promotional, as it contains some phrases that are considered to be PR-speak like "love of theatre". It's not bad, but it does need a lot of cleanup.
  4. There's a lot of detail in the article. This isn't always a bad thing, but the thing to remember is that you need a lot of sourcing to justify going into a huge amount of detail about a given topic. Encyclopedia articles are meant to be brief overviews of someone's life and I'd say that only about a quarter of the article (not including book lists) would actually merit inclusion, if that.
To put things bluntly, this would require a fairly large amount of cleanup, to the point where I'd actually say that this should be re-written from scratch. I'm willing to help with this, if you want, however I don't think that the deleted versions would be all that helpful offhand given how many issues there were with sourcing and other elements. Of course this relies heavily on whether or not Groulx passes WP:NAUTHOR or WP:GNG - putting out books and working in various fields does not always guarantee notability.
Finally, I do have to ask: do you have a conflict of interest in this situation? Were you asked to create the article? If so, you need to read over WP:COI. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:37, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Something else to take into consideration is that putting in a ton of sources does not make an article seem more notable for having them. If anything, it can actually make someone seem less notable rather than more notable. Offhand I'm looking at the sources and I don't know that any of them will be usable. The sources are either primary, e-commerce sites, or they're considered to be self-published sources like blogs, which undergo little to no editorial oversight. For example, while Bitten by Books is a good blog (I'm familiar with it) it's not one that would pass muster as a reliable source. It takes an awful lot for a blog to be considered a reliable source and one of the most well known book blogs (Dear Author) only barely passes as a reliable source - and even then only in very, very specific circumstances. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:42, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
  • I finished doing an overview of the page's sources - none of them are reliable sources that can establish notability and the majority of them are ones that actually shouldn't be used on an article at all. You can't use a general link to Ancestry's DNA page to assert that Groulx is a noted genealogist and state what her DNA makeup is - that doesn't back up any of the claims and to be honest, a general interest in genealogy is not the same thing as being someone well-known in the field. I also did a search for sourcing in general and I don't see where she's received any coverage in places Wikipedia would consider usable as a reliable source. My recommendation here is that you look into hosting this information in another site like Wikia, where's the guidelines are far more lax than they are here. If this was restored it'd almost certainly be deleted via AfD, given the lack of sourcing out there. I'm sorry, since I know that this can be hard to hear, but I just don't think that trying to restore the page on Wikipedia is really a good idea at this point in time. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:47, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi Tokyogirl79. There is no COI. I did meet Groulx in 2008 at a book event and have followed her on her FB fan page since then. I have no relation. Just a fan of her work, as she is well known in Ottawa, Canada where she wrote the books and is a local celebrity. I pulled much information from her IMDB page, and other sources around the internet. I would like help re-writing a page. It is okay if it is much smaller/shorter with less info. I am still getting used to the process of editing on Wikipedia and love writing bios on notable people. Thank you for offering to assist. I accept, if you have time, to review and rewrite. Writemorerightmore (talk) 16:19, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

I think you are falling into the trap we call WP:BOMBARDMENT. I have not checked all your 29 references, but #1 is about an exhibition by his art master and does not mention him, #2 and 3 are brief references in articles by or about his pupils, #4 is his own website, #5 is the website of a school where he studied, but does not mention him, the next three are all about the same book which he illustrated. Many others are links to his work. What is needed to establish WP:Notability in Wikipedia's sense is independent references that are about him, and discuss him and his work in some depth. Check out WP:Notability (summary). I suggest that you prune the trivial references and concentrate on finding a few really relevant ones. JohnCD (talk) 14:16, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
