Laura Aguilar[edit]

I wanted to thank you for all of the work you've been doing on her Wikipedia entry. I love her photography but I haven't had the time or resources to maintain the entry as I would like! Many thanks, Roving Ginger (talk) 20:38, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

@Roving ginger:You're very welcome. I enjoy working on citations. Unfortunately I don't have direct access to all the sources that are listed in Further Reading, so work on integrating those into the body of the article will have to wait. Mduvekot (talk) 20:52, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

depression in college students[edit]

Hello Mr/Miss Mduvekot. My page Depression in college students is for my Psych class final. We have to select a topic for our group, which is depression in college students, then build a wiki page that will be graded in two weeks. None of my group mates have built a wiki before and we are learning as we go along. Once our professor has seen that we can build a wiki page with our information then we will take it down. If you delete it we will fail the class. Please do not delete! We will delete it as soon as it's finished and our professor grades it. It has to be a wiki page for the project, each group is doing a wiki page with a different Psych issue. If it's deleted before hand, we will mostly fail the class and I need it for a prerequisite for another class that I need to graduate. Please and thank you! Psych team 4 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Psychteam4 (talk • contribs) 03:59, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

@Psychteam4: What's the username of your psych prof? There's a correct way of going about this. Mduvekot (talk) 04:04, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

My edit on Consequences Of War[edit]

Hello,

I just recently began working to improve wikipedia and today decided to work on some art pages (as i just recently spent some time with an Art History professor at a local university). I received a notification that you undid my edit and was hoping to learn from my mistakes. Were my changes inaccurate? Excessive? Thank you for your advice and I certainly hope I can help out in the future! Khepre (talk) 23:07, 15 February 2016 (UTC)Khepre

Hello @Khepre: I undid your edit because you wrote: "This is a further indication that war sacrifices culture at the altar of destruction". One of Wikipedia's fundamental principles is that we write from a Neutral point of view. Now, if you find a reliable source that says what you wrote, then you can quote the source and maintain Wikipedia's neutral point of view. You could even quote Rubens himself: "In addition, one sees an architect thrown on his back, with his instruments in his hand, to show that which in time of peace is constructed for the use and ornamentation of the City, is hurled to the ground by the force of arms and falls to ruin." as long as you point out that it was Rubens who said it and cite the source (the letter to Sustermans). It's an incredible painting, I saw it in Florence as a young art student. All the best, Mduvekot (talk) 23:40, 15 February 2016 (UTC)

Your edit on the List of contemporary artists[edit]

Dear Mduvekot,
thank you for your help and sorry for my mistake. I came in late 2014 to Wikipedia and a few days ago to the English Wikipedia, so a lot of errors will accompany my way through this new world. Beside this I am somewhat old, so learning takes time. I hope it will be better in future. Beside this: it is funny as I am German but my nephew is living near Toronto.
Have a nice time
Andrea014 (talk) 16:54, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

@Andrea014: No problem. I hope my revert of your edit didn't discourage you from continuing to contribute. All the best. Mduvekot (talk) 23:51, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
@Mduvekot: Also: no problem. Learning always is going the way of mistakes. This is not nice but fact. :-) And as there is a lot to learn in the world of Wikipedia I have to expect a lot of mistakes. Only sorry for all those who have to take their time for correcting.
Andrea014 (talk) 04:48, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Your edit on the List of Notable fiber artists[edit]

I'm curious Mduvekot why you removed yarnbomber, Stephen Duneier from your list of notable fiber artists. Although he has not had any exhibits in museums, his work is represented by the very well regarded American art gallery (Sullivan Goss), he has broken new ground in the art form and his work has been recognized by major publications around the world, including Newsweek and ArtNews Magazine, the most widely circulated art related publication, not to mention the US Forest Service and even McDonald's. Perhaps there is something I'm missing? — Preceding unsigned comment added by M1ndful1s (talk • contribs) 01:26, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

@M1ndful1s: I reverted the edit because I didn't think Duneier is seen as a major figure in Fibre art by any art historical or critical sources. I think that the list that is currently there could be improved. The approach we took at List of contemporary artists might work for Fibre art as well. Let's take it to the Talk page and it figure out there. All the best, Mduvekot (talk) 02:04, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

User:Mduvekot/sandbox/feminism museum surveys[edit]

Hi there, I noticed User:Mduvekot/sandbox/feminism museum surveys (which really isn't an article draft but a sandbox) and was wondering if you would consider moving it to a subpage like those at Wikipedia:WikiProject Women artists/Worklist. I'd not exactly sure what the scope of your list is (looks like feminist artists based on museums) but just a suggestion. Your page isn't likely to be deleted as it is but over the years, I've seen a number of these kinds of potential article lists where the individual who created them stopped editing or whatever and the list falls hidden where no one can find them. The advantage of putting it in the artists page is that you're likely to find like-minded individuals who may also get interested and help. Otherwise, I wish you luck. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 05:01, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, the museum survey list is more a tool for me to help assess notability than anything else. I don't think it would have much use as a list or article. Mduvekot (talk) 17:02, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

I just went back and did some more research. I did identify four articles, after all, that now I feel suffice to call for a referral to AFD, and I regret being so hasty, since I normally A7 articles not only based on their own content but also after conducting my own notability spot-check. I still feel the article itself didn't convey her significance, saying little more than "This person is a curator and an artist." But if the article were restored and fleshed out a bit, I'd leave it alone. —Largo Plazo (talk) 16:52, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Hello!

I'll be honest, I blatantly vandalized that page (and possibly a couple others) for a laugh, the practice of useless officers getting awarded medals for doing their job is often considered a problem by their long-suffering subordinates, but not really a fact or worthy for submission on Wikipedia (yet). Well done, you've caught me out! I won't vandalize again!

WikiProject X Newsletter • Issue 7[edit]

WikiProject X icon.svg
Newsletter • February 2016

This month:

One database for Wikipedia requests

Development of the extension for setting up WikiProjects, as described in the last issue of this newsletter, is currently underway. No terribly exciting news on this front.

In the meantime, we are working on a prototype for a new service we hope to announce soon. The problem: there are requests scattered all across Wikipedia, including requests for new articles and requests for improvements to existing articles. We Wikipedians are very good at coming up with lists of things to do. But once we write these lists, where do they end up? How can we make them useful for all editors—even those who do not browse the missing articles lists, or the particular WikiProjects that have lists?

Introducing Wikipedia Requests, a new tool to centralize the various lists of requests around Wikipedia. Requests will be tagged by category and WikiProject, making it easier to find requests based on what your interests are. Accompanying this service will be a bot that will let you generate reports from this database on any wiki page, including WikiProjects. This means that once a request is filed centrally, it can syndicated all throughout Wikipedia, and once it is fulfilled, it will be marked as "complete" throughout Wikipedia. The idea for this service came about when I saw that it was easy to put together to-do lists based on database queries, but it was harder to do this for human-generated requests when those requests are scattered throughout the wiki, siloed throughout several pages. This should especially be useful for WikiProjects that have overlapping interests.

The newsletter this month is fairly brief; not a lot of news, just checking in to say that we are hard at work and hope to have more for you soon.

Until next time,

Harej (talk) 01:44, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information. For more information about the columns and categories, please consult the documentation and please get in touch on SuggestBot's talk page with any questions you might have.

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping.

If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from Nettrom (talk), SuggestBot's caretaker. -- SuggestBot (talk) 20:52, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

"Women are everywhere"[edit]

Hi Mduvekot. I'm an editor (not very active till now) of the Italian Wikipedia, where the gender gap is a real issue. I'm trying to participate to an IEG with the project "Women are everywhere". You will find the draft at this link https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Women_are_everywhere It would be great if you could have a look at it. I need any kind of suggestion or advice to improve it. Support or endorsement would be fantastic. Many thanks, --Kenzia (talk) 18:46, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

Warren Bell Hamilton page[edit]

As I started building this page, I received a note that it had been marked for deletion because it's about a living person and in the first iteration (only the intro paragraph) had no references. Subsequently I added references including links to the National Academy of Sciences, Geological Society of America, and Colorado School of Mines websites, as well as several books.

I'm just writing to check whether these meet expectations for legitimate references, and the page will no longer be marked for deletion.

thanks, Larry Hamilton (IChiloe) — Preceding unsigned comment added by IChiloe (talk • contribs) 16:37, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

@IChiloe: I noticed you have recreated the Warren Bell Hamilton page at Warren B. Hamilton, this time with references. That solves the issues that led me to nominated the page for deletion per WP:BLPPROD. Thank you for fixing the lack of references. Mduvekot (talk) 20:10, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

WikiProject X Newsletter • Issue 8[edit]

Newsletter • March / April 2016

This month:

Transclude article requests anywhere on Wikipedia

In the last issue of the WikiProject X Newsletter, I discussed the upcoming Wikipedia Requests system: a central database for outstanding work on Wikipedia. I am pleased to announce Wikipedia Requests is live! Its purpose is to supplement automatically generated lists, such as those from SuggestBot, Reports bot, or Wikidata. It is currently being demonstrated on WikiProject Occupational Safety and Health (which I work on as part of my NIOSH duties) and WikiProject Women scientists.

Adding a request is as simple as filling out a form. Just go to the Add form to add your request. Adding sources will help ensure that your request is fulfilled more quickly. And when a request is fulfilled, simply click "mark as complete" and it will be removed from all the lists it's on. All at the click of a button! (If anyone is concerned, all actions are logged.)

With this new service is a template to transclude these requests: {{Wikipedia Requests}}. It's simple to use: add the template to a page, specifying article=, category=, or wikiproject=, and the list will be transcluded. For example, for requests having to do with all living people, just do {{Wikipedia Requests|category=Living people}}. Use these lists on WikiProjects but also for edit-a-thons where you want a convenient list of things to do on hand. Give it a shot!

Help us build our list!

The value of Wikipedia Requests comes from being a centralized database. The long work to migrating individual lists into this combined list is slowly underway. As of writing, we have 883 open tasks logged in Wikipedia Requests. We need your help building this list.

If you know of a list of missing articles, or of outstanding tasks for existing articles, that you would like to migrate to this new system, head on over to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Requests#Transition project and help out. Doing this will help put your list in front of more eyes—more than just your own WikiProject.

An open database means new tools

WikiProject X maintains a database that associates article talk pages (and draft talk pages) with WikiProjects. This database powers many of the reports that Reports bot generates. However, until very recently, this database was not made available to others who might find its data useful. It's only common sense to open up the database and let others build tools with it.

And indeed: Citation Hunt, the game to add citations to Wikipedia, now lets you filter by WikiProject, using the data from our database.

Are you a tool developer interested in using this? Here are some details: the database resides on Tool Labs with the name s52475__wpx_p. The table that associates WikiProjects with articles and drafts is called projectindex. Pages are stored by talk page title but in the future this should change. Have fun!

On the horizon
  • The work on the CollaborationKit extension continues. The extension will initially focus on reducing template and Lua bloat on WikiProjects (especially our WPX UI demonstration projects), and will from there create custom interfaces for creating and maintaining WikiProjects.
  • The WikiCite meeting will be in Berlin in May. The goal of the meeting is to figure out how to build a bibliographic database for use on the Wikimedia projects. This fits in quite nicely with WikiProject X's work: we want to make it easier for people to find things to work on, and with a powerful, open bibliographic database, we can build recommendations for sources. This feature was requested by the Wikipedia Library back in September, and this meeting is a major next step. We look forward to seeing what comes out of this meeting.

Until next time,

Album Artists[edit]

I noticed that the page for Album Artists has been deleted. I was going to add these 3 articles as references https://www.mirit.com/fraser-scott-supports-london-children-album-artists/ and http://coldplaying.com/forum/index.php?threads/interview-with-fraser-scott-of-album-artists.103344/ and http://www.radio.cz/en/section/one-on-one/inspiration-worked-both-ways-says-artist-mila-fuerstova-of-close-collaboration-with-coldplay--1 Just wondering that if I had have done, would they have made the entry notable enough as I see that was why it was taken down? I hate seeing entries deleted! Architect6 (talk) 13:28, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

@Architect6: Wikipedia requires independent, reliable sources. I hope you'll see that mirit.com is not a reliable source, and that coldplaying.com is not an independent source. radio.cz may be a reliable source for news, but this is an interview, which can only be used to support a statement that someone said something, not that what they said is a fact. Mduvekot (talk) 13:54, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
I see, tks. Coldplaying.com says it "brings you the latest Coldplay news, multimedia, ticket/travel information and live concert updates. We are an established community, formed in 2000 and in 15 years, over 100,000 registered members have been a part of it". Does that qualify as independent? Architect6 (talk) 22:25, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
@Architect6: I don't think that coldplaying.com is an independent, reliable source for information about coldplay. Mduvekot (talk) 00:08, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

That's fine man I was trying to undo that but I kept getting that someone else was editing that part so it must have been you :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:3C4:4300:5F8F:F8AA:B41B:31AB:A735 (talk) 01:18, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
