Cannabis Indica

The following instructions were copied from mw:Extension:Title Blacklist.

The title blacklist is maintained as a system message MediaWiki:Titleblacklist.

This page consists of regular expressions, each on a separate line. For example:

Foo <autoconfirmed|noedit|errmsg=blacklisted-testpage>
[Bb]ar #No one should create article about it

There is no need to use "^" at the beginning, and "$" at the end; these are added automatically.

Each entry may also contain optional attributes, enclosed in <> and divided by |

  • autoconfirmed — only non-autoconfirmed users are unable to create/upload/move such pages
  • noedit — users are also unable to edit this article
  • casesensitive — don't ignore case when checking title for being blacklisted
  • errmsg — the name of the message that should be displayed instead of standard

When the action is blocked, one of the following messages is displayed together with the filter row (as $1): titleblacklist-forbidden-edit, titleblacklist-forbidden-move, titleblacklist-forbidden-new-account or titleblacklist-forbidden-upload. Generic filenames have their own custom error message, MediaWiki:Titleblacklist-custom-imagename.

There is also MediaWiki:Titlewhitelist and a global title blacklist.

Only administrators and template editors can override this list on all actions. Account creators can override this list on account creations only.

Blacklist addition request: Keezy K[edit]

Per Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Brianalaflair, requesting that keezy k be added to the blacklist, at least for a while. The non-notable bio has already been recreated with several variations, and the latest Mc Keezy k(Producer) is obviously trivially alterable were it salted. --McGeddon (talk) 22:48, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

  • I've readded the original message by McGeddon as certain editors & IPs had been changing/vandalizing it...., Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 15:29, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

Blacklist addition request: Sachin Tomar[edit]

Per Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Iamsachintomar/Archive, requesting that sachin.+tomar be added to the blacklist. Sockpuppets have been creating articles with many trivial variations on the name "Sachin Tomar". --McGeddon (talk) 12:40, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

  • This really, really needs to be done. There are pages made with this name about once a month - there was a gap in January for whatever reason, but they're back now. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:55, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
  • Concur. I would make it Sachin.?[Tt]omar to start with though, to head off a couple of obvious end-arounds. CrowCaw 17:14, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
  • 2 more socks today, already getting sneaky, so now how about (Sachin.*?[Tt]omar)|(Tomar.*?[Ss]achin) CrowCaw 23:55, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
  • And another at Sachin S Tomar. @MER-C: Since you're the only one regularly updating the list, what do you think of adding this? Or is Meta the place for this? Thanks! CrowCaw 16:46, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

Done. MER-C 01:13, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Blacklist request: List of Master of Science in Bioinformatics[edit]

Requesting that List.+Master.+Bioinformatics be added to the blacklist. Macdorman (talk · contribs) is attempting to create the salted article List of Master of Science in Bioinformatics under a different title. RockMagnetist(talk) 21:03, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

I'm withdrawing this request as there has been no further activity related to this article. Anyway, there doesn't seem to be much point in making a request on this page - I haven't seen a response in over 3 months. RockMagnetist(talk) 16:52, 11 February 2016 (UTC)

Blacklist addition request: Lovifm[edit]

Request .*Lovi(fm|FM).* - sockpuppet spam for two months, per Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Alex9777777/Archive. --McGeddon (talk) 12:20, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

Done. MER-C 01:11, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Non printable / typeable characters[edit]

A couple of recent articles with either unicode titles, or ones that would be nigh impossible to type. Thoughts on what to do with these, both now and for future?

Setting a maximum length for new usernames[edit]

Back in 2014, the 40-character username limit was removed here per Matma Rex's request. This was under the understanding that the software would enforce a limit of 64 characters regardless. However, due to SUL auto-renaming, the 64 character limit had to be increased to 85. Thus it is now possible for people to register new usernames like:
User:A wonderful serenity has taken possession of my entire soul, like these sweet morning
Such long usernames are completely unnecessary, although vandals like User:99 Willys on Wheels on the wall, 99 Willys on Wheels... seem to enjoy them. This is not strictly an aesthetic issue, but also a practical one, as excessively long usernames make it more difficult for reusers to properly credit the authors of articles. Perhaps 40 characters was too restrictive, but I think 85 characters is excessive. I would like to propose re-adding the maximum length limit, but setting it to 50 characters instead of 40. Here is an example of a hypothetical 50 character username:
User:My username is 50 characters and I am fine with it
@Matma Rex, Mr. Stradivarius, The Anome, Xaosflux, Quiddity, MZMcBride, and Legoktm: What say thee? Kaldari (talk) 00:56, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

I say SUL seems to have removed this from enwiki consideration, you can make you username on any other project and use it here. — xaosflux Talk 03:16, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
Local title blacklists no longer have the ability to block new account creation, only the global meta titleblacklist can. Legoktm (talk) 04:14, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
I think 50 sounds like a reasonable limit, but it should be done globally and not just on enwiki. (And if Legoktm is right, which he is, of course, then it can only be done globally.) — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 04:35, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
If we can't do anything about the username length then can we at least increase the allowable size of an edit summary? It's pretty annoying to revert one of those long-winded usernames and only have a few characters left over for the summary. Meters (talk) 04:54, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
You may wish to subscribe to phabricator:T6715. --MZMcBride (talk) 22:39, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
I've proposed a global limit at meta:Talk:Title blacklist#Excessively long usernames. Kaldari (talk) 21:39, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

User:DumbBOT blocker[edit]

Nyttend, a couple years ago you added this entry for DumbBOT action blocking; Tizio has your bot been adjusted such that this is no longer? — xaosflux Talk 06:40, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

OK, I've removed this - we expect bots to edit constructively and not depend on the title blacklist, if it misbehaves it can be shut down. — xaosflux Talk 23:56, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

Block Vicky Martin Singh[edit]

There's been an attempt to add an article for Vicky Martin Singh under various names, including Vicky martin (Song Writer) and Vickymartin.singh. I've recently blocked an IP that was trying to get around this and post the article on their talk page as well. (I don't think that we could probably do anything about that, but if so then that'd probably be a good idea.) The IP is very likely Vicky85144 evading a block. So far they haven't tried re-making anything in the mainspace but the IP is persistent so I think that it's likely only a matter of time before they attempt doing this again.
