C.K. Holliday[edit]

Way to go, man! You're on the "Did You Know?" page and you've also eliminated a red link at the Disneyland Railroad article. One of the two original locomotives is named after Holliday. Thanks for the touch-ups on the article about the Harbor Sub as well. Wrote that one kinda late last night.  :) - Lucky 6.9 6 July 2005 17:10 (UTC)

  • Heck, we wuz neighbors! I grew up in Torrance and I could hear trains blowing their horns at the Sepulveda Boulevard crossing at night. My brother, sister and respective spouses lived in a duplex for awhile that backed up right against the tracks near Crenshaw. Talk about a backyard railroad! I loved that place. Never got tired of railfanning from there. As for that Valley/Ardmore corridor, I remember it well. Never saw a train on it, though. There was talk about resurrecting it for a light rail line, but alas, it's gone along with those really cool old crossbucks. A lot of the PE lines in Torrance have been removed but I think a few of the tracks and even the grade crossings still survive. There were some really cool old cantilevered crossing signals at Torrance and Normandie for years; ditto Carson and Arlington. Never saw a train on any of those crossings, either.  :^) - Lucky 6.9 6 July 2005 18:12 (UTC)

DYK[edit]

Updated DYK query Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Cyrus K. Holliday, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently-created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

"Vandalism"[edit]

You're welcome. I think that anon user was just being immature. Hopefully he'll get over himself and respond to your talk page comments. Mateo SA | talk 04:32, July 14, 2005 (UTC)

Thank you[edit]

Thank you for moving featured article candidate section - I was doing this for the first time, so it's good when someone fixed my error :) DariusMazeika 13:16, 14 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Railfan vandals[edit]

Thanks for the note. I saw your post to AN/I and decided to add my own research. I was checking yesterday on all the vandalism to the railfan article and it all looks related; lots of open proxies, IPs related to each other and to some registered users, same IPs and users with a pattern of frivolous VFD nominations and disruption of other articles (Philadelphia TV stations, license plates, etc.) No, I don't think this is personally directed at you, just somebody with issues who doesn't like railfans in general. Blackface[edit]

Hi. Thanks for weighing in on the FAC for blackface. I wrote an explanation of my use of the racial slurs in the description of the form. I hope you'll revisit the FAC page and change your objection to an endorsement. Peace. deeceevoice 19:19, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. Thanks for your vote. I'm glad you enjoyed the article. I'm glad the vote was successful, though it seemed oddly anti-climactic. I followed the link to your piece on the Pioneer Zephyr. Very cool. I love the old trains from the golden age of rail travel. I have this fantasy of one day doing a luxury tour, including a stretch in one of those glass-ceilinged cars through the mountains... (daydreaming). Oh, well, back to work. :( deeceevoice 02:44, 23 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Madison and Wikipedia[edit]

Hey, I'm a fellow Wikipedian in Madison. I'm also a freelance writer, and I've been asked to write a piece on Wikipedia. Just wondering if you'd be willing to chat/be interviewed/be quoted about it? If you are, please let me know, either on my talk page or my email, pce53703 *at* gmail dot com. Thanks! NickBurns 15:51, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for the reply. I understand time is crunched...It really is just a few questions, so if it's OK I can email them to you? It's a relatively short article - just want to get quotes from fellow Madison users. NickBurns 17:48, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Shay[edit]

Hi, Slambo. I was wondering about the disambig page you created at Shay. It looks like the "Shay" in the article Fly or Die is just a quick mention in the article, hardly enough for a link. Are you planning to write an article about him? It just seems that if a disambig page links to something, it should link to an article that is mainly about the named link. Joyous (talk) 22:45, July 25, 2005 (UTC)

It looks like the musician "Shay" is a member of N.E.R.D, although the name is spelled differently in the NERD article. I think that Shay should redirect straight to Shay (locomotive), with maybe a note at the top of the locomotive article that would send a reader to N.E.R.D if that's what they were looking for. "Along Your Way"[edit]

Looks like the Santa Fe published these (or something similar) every year. I'm glad I found the web link for the 1946 edition (does it vary, much from yours?), one day my bookcase is going to be too full to take on any more of these types of things!--Lordkinbote 07:39, July 27, 2005 (UTC)
