Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to List of American novelists may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:

Thanks for uploading File:Twin-Tone Records logo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Replaceable fair use File:Chris Strouth.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Chris Strouth.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Peripitus (Talk) 03:35, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:08, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Evil One (Roky Erickson album)[edit]

Thanks for creating this article. I've just clarified one point - the CBS UK album was originally simply titled Roky Erickson and the Aliens - https://www.discogs.com/Roky-Erickson-And-The-Aliens-Roky-Erickson-And-The-Aliens/release/4324389 - and it was only the later Edsel reissue that had the title I Think Of Demons. I may see if there's anything I can add to the article later. Ghmyrtle (talk) 07:48, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Cover art of LINOMA, A Nebraska Compilation.gif[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Cover art of LINOMA, A Nebraska Compilation.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 9 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Vlad Taltos[edit]

Hold on. If I were to tell you "I wrote several novels about John Pembleton." Yeah, that implies that the content of the novel is fictional but not the status of fictionality of John Pembleton. I'll agree my edit wasn't the best, but without further information you can see how someone could at least be confused by the way the sentence is phrased, right? Thanks ― TaltosKieronTalk 14:09, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to meet another fan of the Vlad books. No, I don't think the original phrasing was confusing. The word "novel" means "a work of narrative fiction"; even if some of the elements that make up the novel are not fictional, the work as a whole is understood to be fictional, and it is not generally necessary to clarify further. Your edit didn't do this anyway: You changed the sentence to say "his fictional series of novels about an assassin called Vlad Taltos", which strictly speaking is saying that the novels themselves are fictional. What you should have said instead was "his series of novels about the fictional assassin Vlad Taltos," although in Vlad's case I really don't think it's necessary to clarify his fictional status because he is, as I said, a magic-using assassin from another planet who can telepathically talk to his pet flying lizard. Mehendri Solon (talk) 18:12, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree with you on clarifying his fictional status if it was stated in the article that he was a magic-using assassin from another planet who can telepathically talk to his pet flying lizard. ― TaltosKieronTalk 14:37, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

December 2023[edit]

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at The Replacements (band) shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Reverted chatter from multiple socks[edit]

Hi, I removed a section in which you were bombarded by socks of the Cliff Cash vandal. Feel free to restore them if you feel I've overstepped. 2601:19E:4180:6D50:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 01:51, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello I found a source that found Cliff’s birthday on it[edit]

Hello Mehendri I found a History wiki article. This has Cliff Cash's birthdate on it LiamParsons67 (talk) 15:49, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's on History wiki btw LiamParsons67 (talk) 17:27, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Liam,
First: From what I can tell based on your behavior, you seem to be motivated by a good-faith desire to improve Cliff Cash's article. You have also stated that you know Mr. Cash personally, and I am guessing you are a young person, perhaps a child, who means well but does not know how to properly research a fact so that it can be included on a Wikipedia page. You should read more about how and why Wikipedia requires verifiable, reliable secondary sources for any facts cited, and how to collect that information. Here is one page that explains some of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Verifiability
Second: If you think you have found a decent source for his birthdate, give me a link so I can see if it meets the conditions for being a verifiable, reliable secondary source. I am guessing that it does not do so, but please provide the link.
Third: Did you attempt to log in earlier today as Mehendri Solon, my account? I was sent an automated notice that someone tried several times to log in as me, at nearly the same time you left me your most recent message. If that was you, let me be very clear: NOT COOL. Please do not try that again. Mehendri Solon (talk) 20:37, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This link might be a better one to read first, to educate yourself about reliable sources on Wikipedia: WP:RELIABLE Mehendri Solon (talk) 22:42, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please read WP:DENY. Every user who has come to your talk page complimenting you and seeking your assistance at Cliff Cash is a sockpuppet of a blocked disruptive account. They're forbidden from editing, so they're trying to enlist you to do it for them. Don't answer them. Thanks, 2601:19E:4180:6D50:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 04:57, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see. I just looked up the incident reports about the sockpuppets on the Administrators' noticeboard. I didn't realize what was happening. Thank you. Mehendri Solon (talk) 05:57, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
