Salman Muqtadir, (born August 9, 1993) is a Bangladeshi YouTuber and actor. He started posting on YouTube in 2012 under the name "SalmoN TheBrownFish" and has subsequently become one of the most popular YouTubers in Bangladesh. He is married to Disha Islam.[2][3]

Salman started his YouTube channel in 2012 while he was still a student. He posted his first video titled "Stuff Dhaka Guys Do" in February 2012. The video went viral, and Salman gained a lot of attention for his comedic talent. He continued to create funny videos, skits, and vlogs on his channel, and by 2016, he had become one of the most popular YouTubers in Bangladesh.

In addition to his YouTube career, Salman has also acted in several Bangladeshi dramas, including Bhalobasha 101 (2014), Vitamin T (2014) and Ora Tinjon (2015).

Early life and YouTube career[edit]

Salman was born on August 9, 1990, in Sydney, Australia, to Bangladeshi parents who moved back to Dhaka, Bangladesh, while Salman was still young.[4] His father is a retired Army officer. He did his higher studies in the North South University of Bangladesh.

Salman began posting videos on Facebook before he moved onto YouTube in 2012,[5] creating his channel "SalmoN TheBrownFish", where his comedy sketches became popular. He described his YouTube journey in an interview, stating:

"I did not want to waste my time like others. So I searched YouTube to find some Youtuber in Bangladesh but couldn’t find anyone. That’s when I got the idea that I can be a Youtuber and become the first Bangladeshi content creator".[4]

He received the Silver Creator Award by hitting 100k subscribers in 2016 and the Gold Creator Award by hitting 1 million subscribers in 2018.

Legal issues[edit]

In 2019, Salman released a music video for his song "Obhodro Prem", in which he dances suggestively with a woman. The video was criticized as 'vulgar'[6] and Salman was called to the office of the Cyber Crime Unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.[7] After the meeting, Salman temporarily took down his music video.[8] Although he reuploaded the video later.[citation needed]

Other ventures[edit]

Salman has acted in several natoks.[9] In 2020, he released his first book titled 'Behind the Sin', in which he discusses sensitive issues and taboo topics in Bangladesh's society.[10]

Salman has expressed his support for mental health advocacy, stating:

"Bangladeshi people should be more liberal about mental health issues. Doctors need to be more welcoming. Therapy helped me and I believe it can help a lot of people out there".[4]
