Rush Royale is a mobile game that combines elements of tower defense and card game genres. It was developed by the IT Territory studio and published by My.Games.[1] The game was released in December 2020.[2][3]

Gameplay[edit]

Rush Royale involves battles against monsters, played in Co-Op mode or in Player-vs-Player (PvP) mode against another live player using different cards.

The playing field is a 3 × 5 grid where the player can position their units by using "mana," a special resource that is accumulated during battle after killing monsters. Because the battlefield size is limited, the player can merge duplicate units into another random unit in their deck.[4]

Games consists of "monster waves," during which monsters emerge from a portal on the player's side of the battlefield and move toward the castle gates. When the player kills monsters in PvP battles, they are transferred to the opponent's side of the battlefield. At the end of every wave, all the remaining monsters left on the battlefield are destroyed and a boss appears.

In addition to units, each player has a Hero.[5] This is a separate entity with abilities that will help the player in battle. All players start with the same hero, the Trainer, who creates straw dummies that stop monsters and explode after a certain time.[5]

Cards and heroes[edit]

All cards and heroes in the game have a level of rarity: regular, rare, epic and legendary.[6][7]

Every card and hero have a level, and the player can increase the level by collecting copies of that card and by spending gold. Gold is an in-game resource that the player obtains through co-op matches.

Legendary cards are using magic crystals from seasonal rewards or by trading unwanted legendary cards at the magic lab.[8]

At certain levels, a card can ascend using faction cores. This process enhances a card's basic mechanics.[9] At every level except level 15, players can choose one of two talents that fundamentally change some mechanics. The player can change their chosen talent at any time.

Faction blessings[edit]

All cards belong to one of 5 factions:[10]

  • Forest Alliance
  • Magic Council
  • Kingdom of Light
  • Technogenic Society
  • Dark Realms

Every week, the units belonging to a random faction will receive a different enhancement.

Game events[edit]

Game events occur periodically with additional rewards.[11] Some units and some heroes can only be obtained by completing these events.

  • Rush for Glory: A PvP mode in which players build their deck by choosing between three random units until it is full. The hero is chosen in the same way.[12]
  • Royal Trials: A PvE mode in which the player has access to their collection and can assemble their own deck. After every battle, units will lose energy. Over time, energy will be restored, or another deck may be used.[13][14]
  • Mirror Decks: A PvP mode in which players fight each other with pre-assembled identical decks[15]
  • Dragon Rift: A clan based PvE mode, in which clan members progress through a series of worlds with multiple battles. At the end each world the clan must battle a dragon, unlocked using keys found in that world. Every victory by a clan member will inflict a certain % of damage. When the Dragon's health reaches zero, he is defeated, and the clan is able to move on to the next world.[16]

Clans and Clan Wars[edit]

Clans offer an opportunity to connect with other players, request and share cards, take part in clan wars and explore the dragon rift.[17][18]

Certain achievements by other players, such as upgrading a hero card to a particular level, will also allow players to brag about this event and discuss it in the chat, which may bring additional resources for other clan members.

Clans are assigned to divisions, which will determine the reward for winning the tournament.[19]

A Clan War is a competition between 5 clans in the same division. Players need magic wings to attack the opponent. These are earned when players participate in clan wars, reach the maximum battle pass level or acquire clan boosts.

Clan Wars offer a choice between Daily Battle and Plunder.

  • Daily Battle: A PvP battle featuring special battle modifiers which change daily. In this mode, the player fights a opponent from another clan participating in a clan war.
  • Plunder is an attack on members of a rival clan. In this mode, it is necessary to destroy the opponent's defense, by deploying defender bosses. As a reward for victory, the player will receive some of the points earned by their opponent.

Reception[edit]

As of 2022, Rush Royale has been downloaded over 50 million times, making it the top game in the Tower Defense Strategy genre by the number of installs and became My.Games' second highest-performing game by revenue in 2022, earning $102 million.[20][21][22]

Partnerships[edit]

In June 2023, Rush Royale partnered with American actor and boxer Jake Paul for a limited time event.[23][24][25] The event included a two-week long Champion Rumble event and the appearance in-game of Paul as a playable character.
