Notes on identification

  • Growing in rings on a park lawn
  • Hygrophanous,.translucent, with a slight pinkish tinge.
  • The caps were up to 4cm, paler at edge, and not striate.
  • The smell was only slight; pleasant, sometimes seemed a bit mealy. The taste was mild.
  • The spore powder was white (very slightly cream in quantity).
  • The spores were about 5.5µ by 3.3µ.

If Clitocybe dealbata is regarded as a separate species, these mushrooms should probably belong to it. However C. dealbata is often considered to be a Nomen dubium, an invalid synonym of Clitocybe rivulosa, and I am following that convention.
