English: Amarna letter. Letter from Yapahu (ruler of Gezer) to the Egyptian pharaoh Amenhotep III or son Akhenaten. Yapahu requests help against Hapiru (Biblical Hebrews), a roving band of stateless people, based in the hill country, and conducting raids on cities. These "alternative Canaanites" formed the basis of the Biblical Hebrews. Akkadian cuneiform text. 14th century BCE. From Tell el-Amarna, Egypt. British Museum, London. ME 29832. EA 299 (Amarna no.).
