Image location: Wilder Ridge, Humboldt Co., California, USA The cap color was nearly identical to that of A. velosa. However, the volva is wrong as is the season. Also there were no clear striations. It was growing under a large shrub that I think was a wax murtle over the spring that we’ve always called the Frog Pond. After seeing https://mushroomobserver.org/1777 I concluded that A. breckonii is probably the correct name. Recognized by sight Loaded from Amanita/species/2004-11-22-1.jpg.
