Andhra Premier League is a Twenty20 franchise cricket tournament in State of Andhra Pradesh in India.[1][2] organised by Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) and sanctioned by Board of Control for Cricket in India.[3][4] and first contested during the 2022 season. It is contested by six teams based in cities around the State's.[5][6][7]
History
[edit]In June 2022, the Andhra Premier League was launched. The league was aimed to make up for the absence of high-profile matches in Andhra Pradesh every year and to expose talented players from districts.[8][9][10]
The initial season of the tournament started on July 6 and concluded on June 16. A Total Of 19 Matches took place in the inaugural season.
A Total Of Six Teams participate in the tournament. These six teams Are: Bezwada Tigers, Coastal Riders, Godavari Titans, Rayalaseema Kings, Uttarandhra Lions, And Vizag Warriors.[11][12] The first winners of the Tournament were Coastal Riders.[13]
In the final of 2024 Andhra Premier League, Vizag Warriors defeated Uttarandhra Lions by 87 Runs to win the title.[14] Gedela Srinubabu, the Vizag Warriors franchise owner and CEO of Pulsus, praised the team's exceptional talent and dedication.[15]The Government of Andhra Pradesh applauded Vizag Warriors performance and announced necessary support.[16]
Tournament structure
[edit]Six Franchise city-based teams will compete during the school summer holidays.There will be 19 matches in the league stage of the tournament, with the top four teams qualifying for the semi-final stage. The winners of both the semi-final matches will be the finalists.
