Welcome to WikiProject Malaysia, a WikiProject dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to Malaysia.

Scope and goals

This project is meant to facilitate and encourage the creation and improvement of Malaysia-related articles on Wikipedia, and helping those who want to improve these articles to find a particular area in which they are most interested in working. As "Malaysia" is a broad subject, there are many taskforces and collaborations in which you can participate. We want to:

  1. Allow people to more easily locate groups working on Malaysia-related WikiProjects
  2. Create a body of articles that accurately depicts the history and culture of Malaysia and Malaysians
  3. Expand the number of articles regarding Malaysia and Malaysian subjects
  4. Further #3 by expanding all Malaysia-related article stubs
  5. Highlight Malaysia's relationship and contributions to the rest of the world
  6. Properly source all Malaysia-related articles, preferably using the <ref> element and the {{cite}} series of templates
  7. Standardize the style and format of articles on Malaysia or Malaysian subjects; and
  8. Standardize the use of Malay-language terms, names, and translations into English across all related articles.
  9. Patrol recent changes to existing Malaysia-related articles for vandalism and poor-quality edits, and correct them to maintain the articles.
  10. Edit!

Tasks

Please "Be Bold!" and help us out. There are plenty of things to do in the lists below, including the creation of brand new articles.

Tables of contents and indexes

The following pages serve as tables of contents or indexes to Malaysia-related content on Wikipedia. They need to be developed, and maintained:

  • Outline of Malaysia - for its placement, see Lists of basic topics
    • Refine and maintain the Outline of Malaysia, a key guide on Wikipedia to Malaysia as a subject. It serves as a table of contents, summary, and topic outline of coverage on Malaysia and is the most useful tool on Wikipedia for exploring and understanding fundamental material about Malaysia (and how it fits together) on Wikipedia. Its purpose is an important one: it simply enables readers to see at a glance how the subject of Malaysia is broken down, what the main component topics are, and how they relate to each other - that is, how information on Malaysia is organized (here, and in the world-at-large). It is a site map and outline of knowledge that demystifies the subject known as "Malaysia". Because of its central role in the presentation of Wikipedia's coverage of this subject, it is very important to develop and maintain it to the highest level of quality: to help readers improve their conceptual awareness and understanding of Malaysia as well as find their way around this subject on Wikipedia. For examples of other pages in this set, see Outline of France, Outline of Thailand, Outline of Japan, Outline of Taiwan, and Outline of Iceland, all of which are currently completed to a higher level of quality than this page. The Outline of Malaysia is incomplete, needs your editing contributions, and is especially in need of maps and pictures.
  • The List of Malaysia-related topics provides a list of Malaysia related articles. You can use Special:Recentchangeslinked/List of Malaysia-related topics to monitor changes in Malaysia-related articles (for a similar index page, see List of Germany-related topics).

New articles

Help to improve on the newest Malaysia-related content on Wikipedia. Any that have a sourced amusing, unusual, or otherwise interesting fact and are at least over 1,500 characters should be nominated for entry into the Did you know? box on the Wikipedia Main Page.

This list was generated from these rules. Questions and feedback are always welcome! The search is being run daily with the most recent ~14 days of results. Note: Some articles may not be relevant to this project.

Collaboration

The Malaysian Collaboration of the Month seeks to identify particular articles that would benefit from a significant collaborative effort. Every month, a single article is selected as the focus, and the project attempts to improve it, potentially to featured article standards. You can also nominate and vote for an article by editing the nominees page.

Assessment

Any member of WikiProject Malaysia may assess Malaysia-related articles by following the guidelines and instructions. If you aren't sure about an article, ask about it on the assessment talk page.

Any individual editors may rate stub, start, C-class or B-class for quality of an article. An A-class is the highest scale, assigned after a formal review by the project as a whole, rather than at the discretion of individual reviewers. Request of an A-class is possible through an A-class assessment request. The final assessment (rejecting/granting) is given after all reviews are taken care, especially for objections/oppositions.

Good Article (GA) and Featured Article (FA) are quality scales that are awarded through peer review outside the WikiProject. Guidelines and rules on how to nominate an article are given in the corresponding GA/FA pages. Usually, an article of B- or A-scale from the project has a good chance to pass the Good Article criteria. Furthermore, a GA-scale article has a good chance to pass the Featured Article criteria.

Cartography

The Cartography Department of the project aims to assemble a collection of high-quality maps for use in Malaysia-related articles; both through obtaining existing public domain or free-license maps, and by creating new ones as needed.
