No idea what's going on really, but the bit of Nick's reply that you asked me to remove seems to have gone, so hoping all now in order? Cheers! Maryanne Cunningham (talk) 22:41, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

A bit of an apology, and a bit of a friendly warning
Hi there. First off, I think I owe you a bit of an apology as I thought this post of yours on 7th January on Maryanne Cunningham's talk page was oddly titled and a bit inappropriate from you. However, I've just realised that you were copying a post title that she had herself made a couple of days earlier here. I got the wrong end of the stick, I'm afraid. Sorry. Though why you put the identical post on Clovermoss' talk page two days later, I have no idea. It really hasn't helped.

So, please could I ask you not to simply copy another post title and repeat it elsewhere when you respond (especially if its title is so unusual as that one was), nor indeed should you copy text posted elsewhere by someone without putting it in quotes, especially if it contains the other person's original signature and timestamp as you did on my talk page today, based upon this reply of mine to Maryanne. Instead, in future, just link to them with a WP:DIFF, as this will avoid all the confusion that has just occurred today. If you can't manage to create a Diff, please just make it very clear that you're referring to a post made somewhere else when you follow up a conversation in a different place. Otherwise we all end up in a confused mess.

I also need to point out that it's important that you must not persist when someone like Clovermoss clearly says no to you, as you did with your thrice-repeated push for her to use Whatsapp with you (see here and again here). That makes many people feel really uncomfortable - especially female editors - and the last thing we want to do here is accidentally create an atmosphere where people are not at ease with others, or are put off from contributing. It's the kind of thing that can lead to complaints and even blocks if they persist or make people feel uneasy about someone's motives. Misunderstandings easily happen, of course, but it's important for us all to realise that others can be concerned by our own genuine and honest attempts at engagement. So this post of yours is also not the kind of things that's really OK on Wikipedia, even if it's normal in everyday social media platforms. It comes back to the fact that we're all here to build an encyclopaedia, not to seek out new friendships. I understand that the nuances meant in communication come across far better with audio or video engagement, but all our comms here must remain open, archived and accessible to scrutiny. So Whatsapp and Skype simply aren't the things to suggest to other editors. Period.

I hope this clarifies things a bit better, and I'm formally asking you to take a little more care how you engage with others, please. Finally, although we don't normally post links to YouTube videos on other people's talk pages, I've just sat through and listened to the one you posted on Clovermoss's page and I did find it quite interesting and motivational. We're all volunteers here, committing our time to a good cause, and I now see which drugs are involved in my Wikipediaholism! I'm afraid I don't have time right now to look at the 50 minute-long one you've subsequently posted on my page, or to engage much more on this matter. Welcome!

Hello, Gaurarjun! Welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. You may benefit from following some of the links below, which will help you get the most out of Wikipedia. If you have any questions you can ask me on my talk page, or place helpme on your talk page and ask your question there. Please remember to sign your name on talk pages by clicking or by typing four tildes "~~~~"; this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you are already excited about Wikipedia, you might want to consider being "adopted" by a more experienced editor or joining a WikiProject to collaborate with others in creating and improving articles of your interest. Click here for a directory of all the WikiProjects. Finally, please do your best to always fill in the edit summary field when making edits to pages. Happy editing! Adoption

I'm really sorry but I just don't have the time, I'm always behind on my editing. But look at Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user and hopefully you'll find someone. Good luck! Doug Weller talk 19:04, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Example of how not to edit

Howdy hello! I see you recently left this edit on my talk page, comparing experienced editors to the Gestapo. That's not cool bro. Experienced editors do act as gatekeepers because they are familiar with policy and procedure, as well as what the intention of Wikipedia is. But they're no Gestapo. For starters, the Gestapo are one of the most evil organizations in history, and their name should not be dropped lightly. And secondly, if you ever feel bludgeoned by an experienced user, please talk to them. Remember, we are all volunteers, and everyone makes mistakes. Experienced users should always be willing to discuss why they did something, and explain it to you. Have you had much interaction with experienced editors that left a bad taste? If so we can try to see what went wrong. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 03:00, 9 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorted?

Hi Gaurarjun,

No idea what's going on really, but the bit of Nick's reply that you asked me to remove seems to have gone, so hoping all now in order? Cheers! Maryanne Cunningham (talk) 22:41, 9 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
