The Nightmare Maze of Jigrésh is an adventure published under license by Judges Guild in 1981 for TSR's fantasy role-playing game Empire of the Petal Throne .

Plot summary

The player characters enter the Maze of Jigrésh in order to find the Temple at its heart and steal an artifact called the Claw of Srükárum. They must act quickly, since all monsters and traps they defeat are re-created the next day.[1]

Publication history

The fantasy role-playing game Empire of the Petal Throne (EPT) was first published by TSR in 1975,[2] but TSR did not publish any further material for it. In 1981, Judges Guild acquired the license to publish an EPT adventure, The Nightmare Maze of Jigrésh,[1] a 16-page booklet written by Michael E. Mayeau, with illustrations by Ken Simpson. This would be the only EPT material published by Judges Guild.[3]

Shannon Appelcline noted that "Because of their close relationship with Judges Guild [...] Gamescience licensed them to publish an EPT adventure, The Nightmare Maze of Jigrésh (1981)."[4]: 296

Reception

William A. Barton reviewed The Nightmare Maze of Jigresh in The Space Gamer No. 42.[1] Barton commented that "if you have character of at least level 5 in your EPT campaign, and the players aren't the sort who lose interest quickly, The Nightmare Maze of Jigresh may prove to be an interesting change of pace for your Tekumelian excursions."[1]

In Issue 2 of The Diary of the Doctor Who Role-Playing Games, Nick Seidler recommended The Nightmare Maze of Jigrésh as an adventure that could be adapted to the Doctor Who Roleplaying Game. Seidler commented that "The module is a bit of a dungeon crawl but through an unusually shaped maze and with encounters in unexpected areas." He also noted the unusual "race against time" aspect, saying, "Players discovering they have a time limit adds to the tension of the adventure at hand."[5]
