Syrian towns and villages occupied by Israel in the Golan Heights after the Six-Day War Yom Kippur War included 312 inhabited areas, including 2 cities, 163 villages, and 108 farms.[1] In 1966, the Syrian population of the Golan Heights was estimated at 147,613.[2]
Israel seized the Golan Heights in the closing stages of the Six-Day War. Most of the Syrian Arab inhabitants fled the area during the conflict. An armistice line was established and the region came under Israeli military control.[3]
According to an Arab human rights source, 131,000 Syrians left the Golan Heights, while 7,000 villagers remained in six villages. Su’heita was used as an Israeli military post after the residents resettled in Mas'ade, a Druze village in the Golan Heights. [4]
