Artwork for the first Persona 4: The Animation DVD and Blu-ray volumes released by Aniplex, featuring protagonist Yu Narukami.

The anime series Persona 4: The Animation (ペルソナ4, Perusona Fō, stylized in Japan as "P4 Persona4 the ANIMATION") is based on the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 video game by Atlus. Produced by AIC A.S.T.A. and directed by Seiji Kishi,[1] Persona 4: The Animation revolves around Yu Narukami, a second year high school student from a city who moves to Inaba to live for a year with his uncle and cousin. After acquiring a mysterious power called "Persona", he embarks on a journey with his new friends to uncover the truth behind a bizarre series of murders involving the distorted TV World, as well as a phenomenon called the "Midnight Channel".

The episodes started airing in Japan on MBS on October 7, 2011 and have a simulcast by Anime Network in North America.[2] On November 23, 2011, Aniplex started releasing the series in DVD and Blu-ray volumes, with the first one including the first episode in a director's cut version and bonus CD single for the opening and ending themes.[3] Following volumes will contain three episodes and a single CD with the second released on December 21, 2011.[4] The anime has been licensed in North America by Sentai Filmworks for Blu-ray and DVD release during 2012.[5]

The anime series features the same main voice cast from the original game.[2][6] Shōji Meguro returns as the composer for the series' songs and background music. The first 12 episodes used "sky's the limit" performed by Shihoko Hirata as the opening theme, and "Beauty of Destiny" by Hirata featuring Lotus Juice as the ending theme. When the second season began with episode 13, the opening theme changed to "key plus words" performed by Hirata featuring Yumi Kawamura, and episode 14 began the use of a new ending theme titled "The Way of Memories (Kizuna no Chikara)" (The Way of Memories -キズナノチカラ-, subtitle literally "The Power of Bonds") performed by Hirata.[7] The debut episode of the anime used "Pursuing My True Self" performed by Hirata as the opening theme, utilizing "sky's the limit" as the ending. Episode 9 used a special opening theme titled "True Story" which was performed by Rie Kugimiya as her character Rise Kujikawa. Episode 13 also had a unique ending theme titled "Koisuru Meitantei" (恋する名探偵, lit. "The Love Detective") by Yui Horie as the character Loveline (ラブリーン, Raburīn).
