Vidya Prasarak Mandal's Balkrishna Naik Bandodkar College of Science (Autonomous) (or commonly known as Bandodkar College) is a college located in Thane west which is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. It was established in 1969 by Vidya Prasarak Mandal along with VPM's Arts and Commerce colleges. The late Dr. V.N. Bedekar is one of the founding members of this college.

History

Vidya Prasarak Mandal (VPM) is a premier Educational Trust in Thane which was established in August 1935. Ex. President of VPM, Late Dr. V. N. Bedekar was one of the founding members of the institute.[2] In 1969, Vidya Prasarak Mandal’s College started functioning with all three faculties, i.e. Arts, Commerce and Science on a 13 acre piece of land in Thane.[2][3]

The then Chief Minister of Goa, Dayanand Bandodkar, gave a donation of Rs. 3,20,000/- for the construction of the Science college building. June 1975 marked the transition of the affiliation of the college from the University of Pune to the University of Mumbai, and in the same year Bandodkar College was separated from the Arts and Commerce colleges due to ease and convenience regarding the administraion of the college. Location

The college is located at Chendani Koliwada in Thane west near the Thane creek. The college is very close to Thane railway station, TMT, NMMT and State Transport bus stand.[7]

Affiliation and Accreditation

College is permanently affiliated to the University of Mumbai since 1986. It's also recognized by UGC.[8]

College was assessed for accreditation for the first time in 2003 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and was awarded "B++" grade. The college was reaccredited in 2010 and again for third cycle in 2015 with an "A" grade from NAAC for both the cycles. [9][failed verification]

It is the only single faculty college affiliated to Mumbai University.[2]
