Sheeba Ameer Ali is an Indian social activist from Thrissur, Kerala, India, and the founder of SOLACE.[1], a non-profit organisation that supports children with long term illnesses and their families in Kerala, India. She won several honours for her contributions, including the Vanita Ratnam Award (2016) and the CNN|IBN Real Hero Award (2011).

Early Life

Sheeba Ameer was born in Thrissur, Kerala,India, in 1961. She is the daughter of P.K.A. Raheem, a publisher-writer and social reformer. She was educated at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Thrissur, and the University of Kerala, where she studied English literature.

Career

In 2000, Sheeba founded SOLACE, a non-profit organisation that provides support to children with cancer and their families in Kerala. SOLACE[2] offers a variety of services, including financial assistance, emotional support, and practical help. The organisation also works to raise awareness about cancer and to advocate for better cancer care in Kerala.

Influence

Sheeba Ameer is a role model for other social workers. She is an inspiration to many people who have been affected by cancer[3]. Her work has made a real difference in the lives of many families[4].

Personal Life

Sheeba Ameer[5] is married to Ameer Ali, a businessman. They have two children, a son and a daughter. Her daughter, Niloufa, was diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of 13. Niloufa's treatment lasted for 16 years, and during that time Sheeba became involved in the Cancer Care Community[6].
