Critical reception

The game has received universal acclaim, garnering a rating of 90% on Metacritic, based on 8 critic reviews.[1]

Tap! wrote "It's pretty much Ants vs Zombies, but Ant Raid's controls are more organic than those in PopCap's game, and the oddball sense of humour and design is, if anything, superior. Our only criticism, bar the game's slightly repetitive nature, is it falls between two camps: a bit lightweight for dedicated RTS fans and too tough for casual gamers. Otherwise, it's f-ant-astic. (Sorry.)",[2] while SlideToPlay described it as "A quirky and fun take on real-time strategy games, with lots of character and creative elements".[3] 148Apps said "Ant Raid shows how sneaky the casual RTS is. What seems cute and mindless is actually incredibly fun because it encourages one to think and use a little foresight. It may not be a gateway directly into something like Starcraft but hey, it's a start",[4] while AppSmile wrote "Replay value is high, with the ability to replay levels to earn missing stars, multiple endless levels, and a good number of challenges to complete".[5]

Gamezebo wrote "Ant Raid is a fun, quirky and beautiful title well worth owning. If you've got an iPad, the HD graphics are really a treat",[6] and AppGamer said "As with the iPad version, Ant Raid on the iPhone feels like it was made with a lot of love and attention. The cartoon driven story and mix of strategy and tapping make this a unique title and a worthy addition to the RTS genre. The game seems to have only improved with age".[7] Touch Arcade wrote "Ant Raid might be a little light for the serious RTS crowd - its focus is on frantic action far more than management or organization. For anyone who wants some strategy in their action games, though, it's a perfect fit",[8] and AppSafari said "Ant Raid is a good looking game, and the controls are clever too, but it's varying levels of difficulty and it's repetitive feel brings it down."[9]
