This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to American football. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|American football|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to American football. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Sports.

I am unable to find enough coverage of this American football player to meet WP:GNG or WP:SPORTSPERSON. The most I did find was a few sentences here, which is not totally unsurprising considering he was a replacement player who played three NFL games. JTtheOG (talk) 20:38, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Sportspeople, American football, Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota. JTtheOG (talk) 20:38, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- Delete: I can't find mentions of his playing career in newspapers or a Gnews search. I don't see notability based on a lack of sourcing. Oaktree b (talk) 22:39, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- Comment I couldn't find anything either on Newspapers.com. NewsLibrary used to have a lot stuff that wasn't on Newspapers.com but you have to pay now to even search for stuff. Hopefully, someone else has better luck but I'm not hopeful since he's an offensive lineman. Pre 2022, I would normally just vote Keep since Ori is someone who played in real games, not just preseason or practice squad. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 01:31, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- Comment. I'm thinking that this guy may have been a replacement player who played as a result of the 1987 NFL player's strike? If so, that could explain the lack of coverage for him. Ejgreen77 (talk) 11:46, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- Delete fails WP:GNG. The three games he played in were the three games during the strike. Best, GPL93 (talk) 21:17, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
- Delete. Fails WP:SPORTBASIC, prong 5: "Sports biographies must include at least one reference to a source providing significant coverage of the subject, excluding database sources." Cbl62 (talk) 12:14, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- A number of passing mentions and brief things of course – I could probably write a decent start-class article but I'd likely be wasting my time... An article on the 1987 Minnesota Vikings replacement players, with biographies of everyone (and the same for all teams) we deem non-notable would probably work. No indication this team, which only played a single game, meets the WP:NSEASONS or WP:GNG. The only source in the article gives this team merely a brief mention, and a cursory search didn't come up with anything better. Let'srun (talk) 01:50, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: American football and Indiana. Let'srun (talk) 01:50, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- Delete per nom. The article was created as a sub-stub almost 10 years ago with a single sentence -- "The 1884 Wabash Little Giants football team represented Wabash College during the 1884 college football season." The only addition since then has been a notation that the "Little Giants" nickname wasn't adopted until 20 years ago. Nothing of encyclopedic value is lost by deleting this. Cbl62 (talk) 03:29, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- Delete: Per the article having been a WP:STUB for 9 years, and only having one citation. Mjks28 (talk) 14:04, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- Comment. These are not reasons for deletion. For that reason, the person closing the discussion will unfortunately not take your stated opinion into regard, so please feel free to revise - and please read WP:DISCUSSAFD first. Geschichte (talk) 07:15, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- Comment - All material is included in the Wabash College article. Leaving a redirect would be a painless courtesy. Carrite (talk) 21:31, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
1896 South Bend Commercial-Athletic Club football team[edit]

After a review of the sources in this article, I'm not convinced this team meets the WP:GNG or WP:NSEASONS. In order of appearance in the article, the first source is merely informing readers of a blub meeting, the second is about the athletic club, not the team, the third is all of two short sentences, white the remaining sources are brief and routine game recaps. A check of newspaper archives didn't come up with much better. Let'srun (talk) 01:08, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

- Delete per nom. This is a creation of User:Murphanian777. Back in 2000, they created articles on every team that played a game against Notre Dame in its early years. Many of those opponents were local patsies who Notre Dame defeated easily. That also appears to be the case here as ND outscored this club, 46–0. While well intentioned, I have serious doubts about the notability of stand-alone articles on ND's patsies. Similar articles on ND patsies have been deleted as well. The rationales in the prior AfDs apply here as well. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/1900 South Bend Howard Park Club football team, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/1905 Bennett Medical football team, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/1904 Toledo Athletic Association football team. List of NCAA Division III independents football records[edit]

Topic is not notable enough for a standalone article, fails WP:NLIST and WP:NOTDIRECTORY. This is a list of records for loosely-related college football team seasons. These teams are "independent" and do not belong to conferences, only joined together because they are in a division of college football together. The text in many of these templates also show up as wikitext because of improper code writing. This list was also created as a way to try avoiding deletion of the individual templates at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2024 June 13#Template:2023 NCAA Division III independents football records. - Delete: Nothing is here connecting these records together; fails WP:NLIST. Let'srun (talk) 12:35, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
- Keep: Member of an already established set of pages. (List of Division I FBS independents football standings (1973–present), List of NCAA Division II independents football records) Unless you plan on also nominating both of those for deletion to remain consistent. But I reckon that is not the plan since this is the only one hindering the deletion of the Division III independent templates. Thetreesarespeakingtome (talk) 17:57, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- Keep per Thetreesarespeakingtome. At the very least, this article could be merged to NCAA Division III independent schools. Jweiss11 (talk) 03:10, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

Very minimal significant coverage from reliable sources; majority of sources are from a suspected fan site. Could not find recent coverage in a WP:BEFORE. Fails WP:GNG. Jalen Folf (Bark[s]) 15:58, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose There's only one link to a Facebook page, the others are to a local newspaper while the others are to a very reliable site, which is in use for most minor league articles. This league is equivalent to the National League (division) in England (without the history). There's absolutely no reason to delete this article. Ccui123 (talk) 23:54, 12 June 2024 (UTC) — Note to closing admin: Ccui123 (talk • contribs) is the creator of the page that is the subject of this AfD.
- Oppose I don't see any reason for deletion. This is a pro league, and the article is well sited. StanleyKey (talk) 00:41, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
- The problem I see here is I don't see any other source besides OurSportsCentral, Muskegon Sports, and local team sources. I'm expecting more than just those sources here. Jalen Folf (Bark[s]) 21:32, 14 June 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose It's clearly a minor league and Our Sports Central is as good of a source you can get for leagues below the Major level. BabyBOY789 (talk) 21:06, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
- Additionally, there's Muskegon Sports for West Michigan Ironmen coverage, but what about coverage for the other teams? Jalen Folf (Bark[s]) 21:33, 14 June 2024 (UTC)

Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Owen× ☎ 17:32, 16 June 2024 (UTC)- Delete: The league is not notable at all and there is no news articles on it except for small town news. Blake675 (talk) 23:52, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- Delete - other than the articles from "Muskegon Sports" there isn't anything else produced here or in the article to pass GNG. The Muskegon Sports articles are more relevant for the West Michigan Ironmen than this league anyway. Eagles 24/7 (C) 20:42, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
- Delete: The Muskegon Sports articles are the only ones which could be considered to meet the WP:GNG and they mostly focus on only 1 team. Delete for a lack of WP:SIGCOV. Let'srun (talk) 12:14, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
- Merge with West Michigan Ironmen since the league is inextricably tied to that team and what reliable sources are available for it are in the context of that team. J. Myrle Fuller (talk) 22:30, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
