Biography [ edit ]
Shari Henning Garland (born 1984) is an American translator, writer, and editor at Wikipedia, a full-time text processor (linguist working in 300+ languages) at Faith Comes By Hearing , and a translation editor for the media project "Ukraїner - The Expedition."[1] Shari was a proofreader from March-May 2022 for Ukrainian Catholic University 's[2] project[3] "Little Stories of a Big War"[4] (Ukrainian: Малі історії Великої війни).[5]
Early life and education [ edit ]
Shari was born in Alexandria, Virginia in 1984. Her family was in Virginia while her father earned a master's degree in accounting at Virginia Tech .
Garland was homeschooled in Bucks County and Lehigh County, Pennsylvania from kindergarten through 12th grade. She studied fine art under the following instructors: Patty Pasda at Pasda Studios School of Arts (Bethlehem, Pennsylvania ),[6] Elena Shackleton[7] (who attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts ),[8] and Bob Jones University art faculty member Michelle Berg Radford.[9] Shari studied piano under music instructors: Julliard School grad Gloriana Sewell at Milford Square Piano Studio (Milford Square, Pennsylvania )[10] and Bob Jones University music faculty member Anne Cook.[11] Shari studied Russian under the tutelage of Pennsylvania court interpreter Lucy Annable[12] and Bob Jones University faculty member Dr. Nick Uwarow.[13]
Garland studied languages and linguistics at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina where she earned a bachelors degree in 2006. She did postgraduate studies in translation at Bob Jones Seminary.
Shari has traveled far and wide locally, nationally, and internationally. For example, Shari has traveled to Ukraine and Russia several times, including studying Russian abroad at ABC Language School in Irkutsk , Siberia for a short time.
Translation and localization [ edit ]
Shari translates from more than 10 languages to English on Wikipedia (beginning September 2020). She edits translations from Ukrainian to English and proofreads for Ukraїner (beginning September 2021) on a variety of projects such as longreads, book chapters, infographics, and articles on many topics including language[14] and linguistics.[15] Shari is part of two professional translation organizations: the American Translators Association (Mar 2021 - Dec 2023) and the New Mexico Translators and Interpreters Association (May 2021 - Present).
Shari has written a number of piano compositions such as "Shattered Dreams," "Imminence," "The Shadows," "The Tempest," "Unexpected," "Mourning Doves," and "The Haunted Mansion."
In 2018, Shari Henning Garland held three consecutive solo art exhibitions of nature art paintings in the Fuller Gallery at the Fran Hanson Visitor Center of the South Carolina Botanical Garden [16] [17] which is part of Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina .

Personal life [ edit ]
Garland currently lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico with her husband and their two daughters. Shari met her engineer husband Anthony Garland in "Rocket City" Huntsville , Alabama in 2011. They were married in 2012. Shari's grandfather on her mother's side worked for NASA (Redstone Arsenal ) in Huntsville[21] and earlier wrote Rockabilly [22] [23] music in Memphis, Tennessee . On her father's side, her grandfather worked in the family grocery business, Henning's Market (Harleysville, Pennsylvania ) which has been in the family for five generations.[24]
