Paola Dmitrievna Volkova (Russian: Паола Дми́триевна Во́лкова; July 23, 1930 – March 15, 2013) was a Soviet and Russian art critic, cultural historian.[1] Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1996).
Biography and career[edit]
She graduated from the Moscow State Bibliographic Institute. She worked in the Central Exhibition Hall on Moscow Manege.
From the late 1950s to 1987, she taught at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography, teaching four courses on Russian and foreign art, on the history of costume, and on the art and culture of ancient China.[2]
From 1976 until the last days of her life, she taught visual design for films at the High Courses for Scriptwriters and Film Directors.
Author of more than 50 publications in magazines, books, periodicals on contemporary art, as well as the work of Andrei Tarkovsky.
From 1989 to 2002, he was director of the Andrei Tarkovsky Foundation in Moscow.[3]
In 2011–2013, she hosted the author's series of programs Bridge over the Abyss on the history of world painting on the Russia-K.[4]
She died on March 15, 2013, in Moscow. The urn with ashes was buried at the Donskoye Cemetery.[5] Some of the ashes were scattered over the Venice Lagoon.[6][7]
