English: Painting of William III, the Duke of Schomberg, and the Pope. The painting shows arrival of King William III in Ireland in the 1690s, with Pope Innocent XI giving a blessing (top left).
The painting was purchased by the Northern Irish Government for £209 and four shillings in 1933, however caused discord when it was realised it contained the Pope, leading to it being debated in the Northern Irish Parliament. It was hung in the Northern Irish parliament until being attacked by members of the Scottish Protestant League, later being moved into storage at the Public Record Office. In the 1980s Ian Paisley requested it for his office.
