Summary

Description
English: Backgammon is said to be the oldest game in history. The ancient Romans played a game, Ludus Duodecim Scriptorum ("Twelve-lined Game"), which was identical, or nearly so, to modern backgammon. This early game board was found near the agora (the market) in Aphrodisias and dates from the second century CE.
