Honi Gordon Sings is the only album recorded as a leader by jazz vocalist Honi Gordon.

Background

Honi Gordon sang as a member of the Gordons (with her father and two brothers) in the early 1950s.[2] Her first recordings, in 1953, were with them.[3]

Recording and music

Honi Gordon Sings was recorded on March 23, 1962.[3] The other musicians on the recording are Makanda Ken McIntyre (alto sax, flute), Wally Richardson (guitar), Jaki Byard (piano), George Duvivier (bass), and Ed Shaughnessy (drums).[3]

Releases

The album was originally released on LP by Prestige Records.[3] It was re-released on CD in 1992.[3]

Reception

The AllMusic reviewer commented that the album presented "bop-based jazz singing at its best."[1] Gordon's version of "Strollin'" was described as "definitive".[1]

  1. Well, that’s interesting to know that Psilotum nudum are known as whisk ferns. Psilotum nudum is the commoner species of the two. While the P. flaccidum is a rare species and is found in the tropical islands. Both the species are usually epiphytic in habit and grow upon tree ferns. These species may also be terrestrial and grow in humus or in the crevices of the rocks.
