Islamic studies refer to the academic study of the religion of Islam, and the history and culture of the Muslim world.

Many Muslims do not make the same distinction as some other religions between religion and secular life. Islamic studies are therefore generally much wider than the study of the religion itself, and include study of social, economic and political issues in the modern Muslim world, especially the influence of religion on those issues.
