Saint John of Karpathos was an Eastern Orthodox bishop and monk whose works can be found in the Philokalia.
Life
[edit]Little is known about the life of Saint John of Karpathos. Saint Nicodemus of The Holy Mountain said "‘It is not known when John was active or where he underwent his ascetic struggles."[1] It is thought that Saint John of Karpathos became the Bishop of Karpathos.[2] His known to have given written advice to monks in India during his lifetime, emphasizing the need for restraint and Christian virtue.[3]
Some of the writings of Saint John of Karpathos can be found the Philokalia, a collection of writings from between the 4th and 15th centuries.[4]
Sainthood
[edit]In the mid-1980s, Metropolitan Ambrose of Karpathos and Kasos sought for Saint John of Karpathos to be included in the Official List of Orthodox Saints, with the blessing of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople.[5]
In 1985, 25 August was designated as the feast day of Saint John of Karpathos.

Well, that’s interesting to know that Psilotum nudum are known as whisk ferns. Psilotum nudum is the commoner species of the two. While the P. flaccidum is a rare species and is found in the tropical islands. Both the species are usually epiphytic in habit and grow upon tree ferns. These species may also be terrestrial and grow in humus or in the crevices of the rocks.
