Those links I told you about the other night turned out to be an IE add-on, not a Wikipedia thing at all. Ksnow (talk) 15:51, 6 March 2011 (UTC)Ksnow

Sue Gardner has given you a cookie! Cookies promote WikiLove and hopefully this one has made your day better. Spread the WikiLove by giving someone else a cookie, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend. From Sue: "I have never awarded anyone a cookie before: how ridiculous :-) Michael, I'm bestowing upon you this cookie because you founded The Signpost. The Signpost is really, really great at helping the enWP community stay informed about important goings-on: I am really glad you created it :-)

[edit] Spanish edition

Hi, Mike. I´m sorry to inform you that the chief administrator of the Spanish edition has been deleting thousands of valid articles alleging plagiarism or irrelevance. As an outstanding member of Wikimedia Foundation it is your obligation to intervene in this issue, replacing this guy, Ecemaml, that´s his name. It is an extended rumour that he is a puppet of the secret services and he is besmirching wikipedia´s good name. Tahnk you very much.

[edit] Orphaned non-free image File:CardSeal-1.gif

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:CardSeal-1.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 03:33, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Time 100

I see you previously redirected the annual Time 100 lists. There does not seem to be an AFD. I have begun recreating them. I am hoping it is a matter of the prior lists not being done well. See 2004 Time 100 for starters.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 22:21, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Can you show me the past discussion. I could not find it before. For 2011 Time 100 and 2010 Time 100 I have found sourced commentary making our article more than lists, Have not been successful with earlier years.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 22:31, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
Are people aware that the time lists are a hybrid of editorial opinion and poll data?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 01:53, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
How are these different from AFI's 100 Years...100 Stars and all the other various AFI lists?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 00:45, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Convoluted art process

Can anything be done about the current difficulty of copying art from one language Wikipedia to another. I have run into this problem repeatedly and have essentially given up.

If you want details, see the latest posting on my talk page. Ksnow (talk) 16:29, 28 July 2011 (UTC)Ksnow

[edit] Minors and Wikipedia:WikiProject_Pornography

Hi Michael

As you may or may not know, there has been quite a debate in the last few days over the issue of whether there should be mechanisms in place to prevent or inhibit the participation of minors in the Pornography WikiProject.

The discussion started, as far as I can see, at User_talk:Jimbo_Wales#Self_identified_13_year_old_joins_WP:WikiProject_Pornography and has since continued at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy)#Wikiproject_Pornography_and_Minors:_Proposals_and_Discussion.

A number of editors have stated that it would be useful to have a professional legal perspective on whether various proposed mechanisms are necessary/advantageous/sufficient/etc. for the Wikipedia project, and if you had time to consider this matter, I'm sure your input would be appreciated.

Thanks! Barnabypage (talk) 21:22, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Seattle Wikipedia Meetup

Hello. Some of us Seattle Wikipedians are organizing a meetup for the "Wikipedia Loves Libraries" event Wikipedia is promoting. Most of us have other Wikipedia interests beyond this as well, but at this event the focus will be discussing Wikipedia's entries on libraries in this area. I am writing to invite you to join us at 7pm on Tuesday, October 25 at Allegro Coffee in u-district in Seattle. Here is the meetup page for this event. I would appreciate your noting on that page if you plan to come. That page also has more event details and some description of what preparation has been done.

I got your name because you posted interest in the meetup last summer. I reserved a private room for us at this venue so we will have less interruption this time than on a busy beach. Thank you for your attention, and if you ever want to talk to a Seattle-area Wikipedian for any reason, then please feel free to contact me. Blue Rasberry (talk) 18:32, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Sorry I missed this, I had a work function that prevented me from attending. Please do keep me posted for any future meetups. --Michael Snow (talk) 17:48, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

[edit] You are invited to this local event!

I would like to invite you to attend a Wikipedia meetup described on Wikipedia:Meetup/seattlewp. This meeting is scheduled for Tuesday December 6 at 7pm in at Café Allegro in University District. Thank you for your attention and I hope to see you there.

I will indeed keep you posted. We are just getting started, but there seems to be enough interest to make this a monthly thing. Blue Rasberry (talk) 18:18, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Hello. I and others will be at Café Allegro in u-district this Tuesday January 3 at 7pm. Here is the event description. I would enjoy meeting you there if you are available. Thanks. Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:23, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
We are meeting Tuesday 7 February at 7pm at Allegro and details are here. It seems you are not active on Wikipedia currently. If you become active again and want to get in touch then please write to me. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:39, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] New left bar format

Whom can I complain to about the wide spacing of the left bar in English Wikipedia. At first, I thought it was a bug that they would immediately see and fix, but it has been that way for over a month now, I think. Other language versions don't have this problem. Ksnow (talk) 14:31, 26 October 2011 (UTC)Ksnow

Well, they blamed it on IE, so I just changed my appearance preference to Vector. It doesn't have the same problem. Ksnow (talk) 15:39, 28 October 2011 (UTC)Ksnow

[edit] Your input is needed on the SOPA initiative

Hi Michael Snow,

You are receiving this message either because you expressed an opinion about the proposed SOPA blackout before full blackout and soft blackout were adequately differentiated, or because you expressed general support without specifying a preference. Please ensure that your voice is heard by clarifying your position accordingly.

Thank you.

[edit] MSU Interview

Dear Michael Snow,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talk • contribs) 04:08, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Interview with Signpost's former editors in chief

The WikiProject Report would like to interview the former editors in chief of the Signpost for an article in the Signpost. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new contributors to the newspaper. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Multiple editors will have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions, so be sure to sign your answers. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 04:24, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Bug I hadn't noticed before

Recently, I have been noticing that bulleted and numbered lists show up through pictures and templates. At first, I thought it was a problem with the Historical populations template that I had been adding to French and Swiss communes, but now I am seeing the same problem on the French Wikipedia where an image is followed by a bulleted list. [edit] Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:24, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
