Nominator's rationale: They are Moroccan Jews. Yorkporter (talk) 22:43, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: WP:C2D to match the main article Pleiades. I listed this at WP:CFDS but noticed that the proposed title already exists (it's a disambiguation page). If the category remains disambiguated, the title should be standardized to Category:Pleiades (open cluster). SevenSpheres (talk) 18:55, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: The Radio personality article says "radio personality (American English) or radio presenter (British English)", so if it's to be believed, this would be an Engvar difference. But there are currently separate by-nationality trees for both, with presenter as a subset of personality. I can't quite tell what their difference in scope is supposed to be. I haven't tagged all the subcats, in case there's a clear and easy answer that would allow this to be quickly withdrawn. Paul_012 (talk) 16:19, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Pinging Giovanni 0331, who recently created a lot of by-nationality subcategories. --Paul_012 (talk) 16:47, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • He also removed all "radio personalities" categories from their "media personalities" parents, which seems incorrect to me. – Fayenatic London 10:14, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
      • To be fair, they don't need to be in "X media personalities" if they're in "X broadcasters", because that would be duplicate categorization since broadcasters is already in media personalities itself. Though they should obviously remain in "X media personalities" if "X broadcasters" doesn't exist. Bearcat (talk) 15:11, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • The US has "radio hosts" in the "radio presenters" layer. @Bearcat: can you remember why you created American radio hosts in addition to radio personalities? – Fayenatic London 10:14, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Because hosts/presenters and personalities are two different things. Bearcat (talk) 14:43, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • If we merge, we must redirect in each case. Other Wikipedias also have both layers (e.g. Spanish, Swedish & Chinese for the American radio hosts & personalities categories), so we do not want to lose the links. – Fayenatic London 11:58, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose - These are two different things. To me, a "radio personality" and a "radio presenter" are both subsets of "Broadcasters" as at present. Deb (talk) 13:23, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. These are two different things. A radio "presenter" (the North American equivalent to which is host, not personality) is the person who MCs the radio program, while a radio "personality" is anybody else who's heard on it at all. For instance, I typically wake up in the morning to a program that's hosted by David Common, but also features secondary non-host contributions by people like Jill Dempsey, Scott Regehr and Mary Wiens. Presenters/hosts is a subset of personalities, not a synonym for personalities — a host/presenter is a specific type of personality, not all personalities across the board, because it's entirely possible to be a personality who isn't a host or presenter. It's like the difference between Johnny Carson (the host) and Ed McMahon (on Carson's show, but not its host), or Jimmy Kimmel (the host) and Guillermo Rodriguez (on Kimmel's show, but not its host), or Lorraine Kelly (the presenter) and all her various lifestyle experts who come on for five minutes to report on a new style or health or entertainment trend (on Lorraine's show, but not the lead presenter) — we'd lose a lot of important context if we collapsed the distinction between "hosts/presenters" and "personalities", because the hosts/presenters and the secondary contributors aren't doing the same thing. Bearcat (talk) 14:43, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thanks for the explanation. I'd consider my proposal withdrawn (considering the article has been edited to reflect the above), but let's leave the discussion open for others to chime in, or in case there's contention. --Paul_012 (talk) 20:23, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose as they are different things - one may be a radio presenter but not a personality and vice versa. DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 04:15, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Aren't all presenters personalities too? Or, what would make that a presenter is not a personality? Marcocapelle (talk) 07:33, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: upmerge. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 15:51, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Propose upmerging:
Nominator's rationale: Unnecessary intersection between language and network/studio. Netflix sits alongside only Category:Disney+ Hotstar original programming by language‎ in Category:Television shows by language. Would expect to see Category:Netflix original programming populated, rather than have to find the shows on Netflix by each language, neither should a user have to know the studio/network when viewing the language categories (i.e. Category:Swedish-language films). --woodensuperman 09:52, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Shouldn't it be a dual merge, also to e.g. Category:Turkish-language films? Marcocapelle (talk) 18:07, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Sorry, yes, that's what I was intending if that wasn't clear. --woodensuperman 08:50, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If the proposal gains support, please add links to the multiple targets in each case, so that we can feed the task to a bot. It may be easiest to do this using text functions on a spreadsheet. – Fayenatic London 11:51, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, this is a trivial intersection (provided that merge targets are clarified further). Marcocapelle (talk) 21:12, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, when adding categories, I often didn't understand why Netflix had the language inclusion and most others did not. As stated, this requires merging up to the Netflix category and to each language category.
@Woodensuperman: you may want to break the last entry (Amazon Prime Video) out of this nomination grouping to eliminate confusion with the section title, lest it mistakenly get upmerged into Netflix. On that note: that final category is a subcat of Category:English-language Amazon Prime Video original programming which was missed, and could be grouped there. -2pou (talk) 18:15, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Road accidents and incidents[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename only Category:Road accidents and incidents to Category:Road incidents. Keep all other categories. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 16:10, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Propose renaming:
512 more categories
Nominator's rationale: Consistency with the parent category, Category:Road accidents and incidents. Mixture of accidents and other types of incidents. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 06:29, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Surely it would be quicker, easier and more consistent to just rename the parent category to Cat:Road incidents? The term incidents covers accidents anyway so we’re risking going into pleonasm territory here. OGBC1992 (talk) 07:22, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sheesh — As of late, CFD pretty much consists of the same few editors going through the motions, resulting in consensus in name only. Sometimes it's necessary for humans to exercise human judgment and do things which can't be done through script editing or going through the motions. This category tree is one such example. When these categories were renamed from "road accident" to "road incident" in 2016, there was an obvious lack of corresponding effort to adjust affected content to take into account the difference between a road accident and a road incident. Nearly eight years later, that effort still hasn't been made. There are other category trees which have come through CFD and seen similar treatment. Despite that, you intend to fiddle-fuck with the category name again? In the real world, that's called putting the cart before the horse. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 07:54, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I quote the rationale: "[...] Mixture of accidents and other types of incidents." Yes, accidents are incidents. Thus the string "accident and incident" is a poorer choice than plain "incident". -- Hoary (talk) 08:10, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Alt rename all to "road accident" only Ngrams says accident is used far more than incident by an order of magnitude. This usage has continued long after these categories were named incident and has only continued to increase over time. If anything is the common name, it's accident. There's controversy for or against using the term, but Wikipedia reflects what is in common use, not what certain people believe is the "right" term. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 08:27, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. These changes would lead to wholly unnecessary churn in histories and watchlists. Thincat (talk) 10:30, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • ALT rename only the parent Category:Road accidents and incidents to Category:Road incidents. All "road accidents" subcats were renamed to "road incidents" per consensus at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2016 March 6. Eight months lated, user:Kanghuitari renamed Category:Road accidents by type to Category:Road accidents and incidents, out of process and without discussion, perhaps following the grandparent Category:Transport accidents and incidents which had been renamed in 2012. However, "Road incidents" should have been used per the consensus in March 2016. – Fayenatic London 11:25, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • ALT rename only the parent Category:Road accidents and incidents to Category:Road incidents. Per above, "accident" is a subtype of "incident" so having both words is unnecessary. Thryduulf (talk) 12:33, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • ALT rename only the parent Category:Road accidents and incidents to Category:Road incidents. I am not claiming that the outcome of the 2016 discussion is ideal but at least we should aim for a bit of consistency. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:07, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • I want to give credit to LaundryPizza03 for the hard work of this good-faith nomination. Ideally I should have followed up my close of the 2016 discussion by renaming the parent at that time… but CFD was lonely work back then![1]Fayenatic London 11:41, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. While I appreciate the intent, I don't think this is necessary. As others have pointed out, an accident is a type of incident. In addition, the word 'accident' is now avoided in the transport profession. This is because it makes an assumption about the cause of an incident - the word 'crash' or 'incident' is now preferred.
