speedy delete templates

Thanks for your help in spotting speedy delete-able articles. I think you've been using the wrong template, though. To request a speedy deletion, use one of the templates at the bottom of this page. Joyous! | Talk 02:50, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

block templates

Hello. I saw you left this notice to a vandal informing him that he'd been blocked. Unless I'm mistaken, you are not an administrator on Wikipedia and therefore you cannot block a user. So it's generally a bad idea for you to leave such notices: for one thing they are deceptive since the user is not actually blocked and they confuse admins like myself who come to the talk page. I am grateful for your help in combating vandalism but please try to stay clear of these templates for now. If you spot a vandal not listening to warnings, then write a report on WP:AIV and an admin will handle it from there. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 03:30, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Another note (sorry, I'm just looking at your contributions!) In this edit you placed a level4 warning on the talk page for an anonymous user. Nothing wrong with that (although level 4 is definitely an overkill) but the edit you're refering to is three weeks old. Because IPs are not always static, it is meaningless to place that warning because it will most likely never be read or, worse yet, read by an editor who has nothing to do with the original offender. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 03:37, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
You're welcome. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask around (say at Wikipedia:Recent changes patrol) or check the contributions of an experienced vandal fighter to see how it's done. I saw that you also tag a lot of articles for speedy deletion. This is also a good idea but I'm afraid you have also tagged a few articles improperly, like Dorrie Nossiter. When in doubt, it's always a good idea to submit the article for deletion using {{afd1}}. It's also an easy way to avoid biting newbies (and many editors who are new to vandal-fighting tend to be a little too agressive). Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 04:00, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Red links

Hi, I saw you warning a user about red links. I didn't check to see to which red links you were referring, but I thought I would point out the relevant guideline on redlinks: Wikipedia:Red link. The gist of it is that not all red links are bad. Katr67 22:27, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Was about to give the same advice. I also notice that you put a few reports to Wikipedia:Abuse reports which should simply be mentioned at WP:AIV which will get much faster response. By the way, let me know when you get tired of the lecturing but since you seem to be dedicated to learning the ropes, I figured I can continue giving you advice from time to time. Do let me know when it gets annoying! Pascal.Tesson 23:05, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

List of law enforcement agencies in Oregon

A "{{prod}}" template has been added to the article List of law enforcement agencies in Oregon, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. bDerrly 23:22, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Removed speedy-delete from Karim Kazeem

From WP:SPEEDY: "Contributors sometimes create articles over several edits, so try to avoid deleting a page too soon after its creation if it appears incomplete."

You tagged it literally a minute after it was created. Before tagging sports personalities for non-notability, see if other members of the same team or league have articles. If almost all of them do, consider an AfD to delete all the relatively non-notable ones. It's more efficient and more fair than individual deletion actions. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 02:53, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

It is a category page, not an article, and I was deleting to let an administrator know it was ready to be deleted per WP:CFD/Working after moving everything in it to the category with the new name.Sdornan 04:57, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Deletion tags

Just use the same tag again, or use category g4 (previously deleted). Thanks, NawlinWiki 19:21, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Tugjob

Howdy. Tugjob is a sockpuppet of a long-banned editor with a history of vandalism, personal attacks and abuse. I applaud your attempts to assist him, but you can save yourself the effort in this case. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 00:23, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

No problem. You might find Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Light current and Wikipedia:Abuse reports/Tiscali DSL enlightening. Cheers! TenOfAllTrades(talk) 01:01, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Eve Online AFD

I can't remember the name of it Impel or something like that Anyway you never got a chance to answer my question. If one sentence doesn't meet your definition of stub status, what do you consider a stub? Postcard Cathy 02:02, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

I think you are getting overly analytical here. The way I understand it, in cases like that article, the only way to get the article improved is to tag it as a stub whether it had one sentence or 5. BTW, I have seen some one sentence articles that are wonderful in that they are clear and exceptionally concise and are stubs as well because they need expansion. (Usually in the bio or chem area that say things like XYZ is an enzyme that works in the stomach breaking down ABC}. So, size truly does matter.  :) I see what you are saying as more of an issue of content, not size. If the article truly doesn't do anything to help you at all, again, whether it is one or 5 sentences long, db it as empty or nonsense. In the first case your argument could be it basically rewords the title and in the latter that it is not helpful at all. Postcard Cathy 02:15, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
I understand, and I agree with you in this case. I suspect that guy has been spending too much time at the computer playing games and not enough time in the real world. I have worked in the mental health field and while diagnosis is far from my strong point, it is one of those know it when you see it type things. Very paranoid. Maybe too much caffeine? I sorted it as a toy stub (I focused on the fact he said Eve Online was a game and didn't really think about whether he meant online game or not - my premature senior moment) and toy stub was the first thing to come to mind. I liked the way he said it wasn't a toy. Reminded me of boys saying GI Joe is not a doll but an action figure. Anyway, I was more interested in finding out if you were making a blanket statement or one specific to this article. Postcard Cathy 02:25, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Tiptoety

User:Mattclifford has created an article using your name Tiptoety that includes obscene and offensive statements. He claims that his IP address has been blocked and you will be unable to stop him from posting under his new identity. I have requested that the article be speedily deleted. I'm not sure how to report him, but surely his new user name should be blocked as well. --Bookworm857158367 01:43, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

User:MattClifford2

Thanks for having him blocked. It looks like he's created another account called User:Mattclifford2. That one and any others he creates probably should be blocked too. --Bookworm857158367 02:04, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Alekos fassianos is a famous artist in Greece and France. There are already wikipages about him in french, deutch and greek and i believe he deserves one in english. congratulations though for your speed!i am very impressedIpodamos

A strange welcome message

You sent me a strange welcome message? "Do not remove warnings"??? And then a Speedy D for AC/DC??? Is this what happens now when you push the {welcomeg} button in you VP tool??? :D . I was a former VP user myself with over 20000 edits before I rejected my username for the "grace" that is anonymous editing. I don't recall my VP ever Speedy D'ing an FA before? Of course that was a few version ago I expect. If you need any VP assistance feel free to ask me. I'm rusty but that little tool drove my edit count through the roof... so I am still an old hat at it I am sure. Good luck and have a nice day! 156.34.217.110 03:27, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

I think we got into an edit conflict, reverting vandalism from the page. You have accidentally reverted the page to the version of this anon, so I reverted all the edits to last version by User:Riana. Thank you --ShahidTalk2me 18:31, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

WPOR Collaboration of the Week

Greetings WPOR member, we are starting a weekly collaboration project where we will announce two articles that are currently stubs that we hope to work together to improve. No pressure to help, but if you would like to, just stop by one of the articles and see if you can find information to expand the article with, copy edit what is there, help with formatting, or add some images. This week’s articles are: Alis volat propriis and Fusitriton oregonensis. Aboutmovies 22:35, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

User Thronemag has blanked the article they created a couple times (which is allowable) so I've replaced your speedy with {{db-author}} --NeilN 06:53, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

WPOR Collaboration of the Week

Greetings WikiProject Oregon employees. Well a big thanks to all those who helped improve Alis volat propriis and Fusitriton oregonensis last week. This week’s Stub improvement are: Government of Oregon which should be easy, and Miss Oregon. Again, no pressure to help with the collaboration, choose one, both, or neither. Also, feel free to opt out of the notifications at the new page dedicated to collaborative efforts at WPOR (newsletter is in R&D). Aboutmovies 18:59, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Wikiproject:Terrorism

Greetings,

I was hoping I could get some input from you, about the proposed mergerof Wikipedia:WikiProject Terrorism and counter-terrorism with Wikiproject:Terrorism. It seems there's a lot of overlap between the two projects, and if we spent a few days merging the lists of articles, sharing ideas and collaborating on improving the same articles which both projects are focused on improving...we could really make some headway. Whether you're in favour, or against, the idea of a merger - I'd appreciate some feedback regardless. Much thanks. Sherurcij (Speaker for the Dead) 21:36, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

VP troubles

Oh, yes, there are definitely some odd things about VP! I had the page script errors happen only one time, and I had a problem with it locking up, but it was apparently due to something with the RSS feed...once I disabled that and used Normal Feed, it has been working like a champ. Very occasionally it will do weird stuff, or do nothing at all...but I like using it even though it has its quirks. Haven't tried Twinkle yet...what made you decide to move to VP from TW in the beginning? I may give it a try...but I really like VP. Dreadstar 04:53, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

I had that same script error problem once too after I changed to a new computer, it just started happening. I ran the script error tool on the AmiDaniel site, and I changed to Normal Feed...and it stopped...but I have no idea which one did it...or if it was a glitch with IE or the Wikipedia site. Did you see this info? I didn't have to try it, but mebbe it will help... Oh, and I saw something about clearing out the IE cached pages, I think I did that too... Dreadstar 05:15, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

WPOR Collaboration of the Week #3

Hello again WikiProject Oregon team members, its time for the next Collaboration of the Week. First a shout out to Sprkee for putting together some templates for this project. Now, in honor of Labor Day weekend and the outdoor nature of the activities that often accompany the three-day weekend, this week’s item is to de-redlink as many parks from the List of Oregon State Parks. Some may even by going to one of these places, a great opportunity to take a picture or two for an article. As always, participation is not required, though it is appreciated. And if you are caught, we will disavow any knowledge of your existence. Since we don’t want to waste any effort through duplication, please make a note on the talk page of which park article you are going to start. Again to opt out or suggest future collaborative efforts click here. Good day! Aboutmovies 19:45, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

WP:BLP

This edit of yours [1] was a gross violation of WP:BLP. Please be more careful in future, and perhaps instead of giving me vandalism warnings you would like to help me keep this page free of potential libel. Kappa 23:07, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Regarding Britney Spears' fifth studio album

I've been removing improperly sourced material from the page. That is, when other users cite sources such as gossip websites or discussion boards, I remove that information from the page because it reflects poorly on the entire Britney Spears Wikipedia community - it makes us look like unprofessional editors with no real research ability. Instead of threatening to block me from Wikipedia, you should consider those who keep adding unsourced or gossip material to our article.

Thanks for understanding. --Circasix 23:07, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

There seems to have been a misunderstanding between the two of us. I always use edit summaries - in my last edit, I wrote almost two sentences about why I was reverting the page! Sorry you've misunderstood my actions. Please consider warning others about their own actions regarding unsourced or improperly sourced material. It is Wikipedia policy, after all, to use verifiable sources! Have a great night. --Circasix 23:15, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
It's alright. It seems you mistook someone else's edits for mine. You'll notice the user KurtShapedBox reverted your own reverts because they were a mistake! But they were a mistake in good faith, so there's no bad blood. Ciao. --Circasix 23:19, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Springfield XD vandalism

I am deleting previous comments, for now. It appears at some point you realized your mistake and apologized, but then undid the apology. Why I am not sure. You then left an additional message stating that I had in fact vandalized a page.

You need to be careful before throwing out vandalism accusations. I have taken down your comments from my page as I don't see anything further productive coming of them.

I had also initially posted a strong opposition to your admin nomination, because of your conduct on this. I deleted that also, for now.

Cleanup

Hi Tiptoety! I tried to cleanup the page so I cut some of the lesser important shows from the list in order to make it clear and possibly easier to read. If you like I can put the deleted shows all back. Thank you for your help. I am trying to make some contribution to artists' biographies. I will be happy to comply. Sincerely Yours, (Salmon1 23:59, 29 August 2007 (UTC))

Hi Tiptoety! I realize that it was wrong what I did. I also think that arbitrary judgments of importance is also wrong. Therefore I am thankful for your restating the article. This way it is accurate. I would like to cleanup but I don't know where to start. If you would be kind enough to give me a hint I would be greatful. I can also just leave it as it is since there is very little written about Judth Brown in the literature. Best regards, (Salmon1 00:11, 30 August 2007 (UTC))

Hi Tiptoety! I think the way how it was originaly was maybe better. Now I feel even guilty that I removed arbitrarily some shows. Please help me what to do. It is a big responsibility since she is dead and cannot protest. What do you think? Sincerely Yours, (Salmon1 00:25, 30 August 2007 (UTC))

Dear Tiptoety! I just looked at Judith Brown article and it looks beatiful. I am very happy. We did some good. If you think that I should do anything I would be happy to do it. Best regards, (Salmon1 00:32, 30 August 2007 (UTC))

Dear Tiptoety! I will put the shows back and I'll follow your lead. Thank you. (Salmon1 00:35, 30 August 2007 (UTC))

Hi Tiptoety! I do not have the permission to put works on the page. I added the external link which provides the same biography that I put in the article. I also listed two books. The requests on the article seem rather unthought through. I hope that artists with lesser hype can also make it to Wikipedia. As you realize she was rather important in her lifetime. Thanks. (Salmon1 01:24, 30 August 2007 (UTC))

Hi Tiptoety! I don't know how to do the edit summary. Could you be kind enough to help me? (Salmon1 01:31, 30 August 2007 (UTC))

Hi Tiptoety! I am tired. I have good intentions and I hope I will have the stamina to follow this through. I kind of understand why some artists made it so well in history. They had an army to do the promotions for them. I am just a true art lover and I would like to help to maintain an accurate history of American art. I hope I will be able to be helpful. Thank you for your understanding and I hope to continue soon. Hi Tiptoety! You are very kind. I would like to improve the article which is rendered a "stub" at the moment. Best regards, (Salmon1 19:18, 30 August 2007 (UTC))

Hi Tiptoety! Thank you very much for everything. I wonder whether I could show you the articles before I get into trouble. I'd suggest that you withdraw your self-nomination at this point--it has no realistic chance at passing. Please don't be discouraged; take the criticisms & suggestions and adjust your editing accordingly. Greater & wider experience can only help and may allow a future RfA to fare better. Cheers, — Scientizzle 22:15, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Your RfA

Hi Tiptoety, I'm sorry to inform you that I've closed your request for adminship early because it was unlikely to succeed. For users to be granted admin status, they have to show that they are trusted members of the community. Individual editors each have their own standards for adminship candidates, but here are a few tips that may help you pass the next time round:

  • Wait a bit longer before your next request. Many Wikipedians think that the length of time that users should be active on the project to get a firm grasp of all the policies and guidelines is roughly 3 months.
  • Try to make some more edits. Administrators need to show they have a thorough understanding of policy, so it would be a good idea for you to contribute in wikipedia space, article space and talk space to show you can communicate with others.

You may wish to take a look at the admin coaching program, which would allow you to have your own coach who could personally direct you along the right path, or consider an editor review, allowing other users to comment on your edits and give you ways to improve. The guide to requests for adminship provides further considerations to make before applying again. Let me thank you for your contributions so far, and if you follow the above advice, there is no reason why you can not have a successful RfA in the future. The Feminine Mystique

Hello! You probably wouldn't remember it, but I was the person who removed the references to Daniel Horowitz in the article for The Feminine Mystique - a change that you reverted. I'm not sure if you read the talk page, but I explained my rationale there and asked for a similar explanation from those who would rather keep the paragraph. I see that you're taking a break from Wikipedia currently, but when you return, is it possible for you to explain your reasoning? I myself am relatively quite new to Wikipedia, so I may be completely off the mark; I only wish to understand why a seeming criticism of Betty Friedan herself has been included in the criticism section of one of her books. No, if you look at my change, the vandalism was already on the page. Given that the previous revision was a bot removing vandalism, I had assumed the page was clean, and as I only edited one section, I didnt see the vandalism to remove it. I didnt ADD the vandalism, I just didnt remove it (because I didnt know it was there). I know how it is to be trigger happy, though, so dont worry about it. Metao 03:40, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

You reverted two apparently good-faith edits edits to this page as vandalism. Maybe you've already realized this but if not, I don't know, you should be aware of it.--P4k 04:12, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

The user was removing content w/o explaining him/herself in the edit summary. Will respond also on your talk page Tiptoety 04:15, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
I can't see any content that they removed.--P4k 04:18, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I saw the diffs. I can't see any content that was removed in that edit. They just rearranged things, and added a little bit of information. What information do you see here that isn't present here?--P4k 04:29, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
