Non-free rationale for File:795px-Combos.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:795px-Combos.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 16:23, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Lauren Scruggs has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A case of WP:SINGLEEVENT. Not notable outside one event.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. The image File:Kimjongun2012.jpg is clearly a copyright violation, having been lifted directly from this source which is clearly marked as copyrighted. I have reverted your re-addition of this copyright violating material. Further to your edit summary, the flickr location you note does not have this image, and in fact the only image in that flickr user's photostream is marked as copyrighted, rights reserved. Given that Kim Jong-un is alive, per WP:NFCC #1, we will not carry a non-free licensed image of him on his article. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 14:32, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Understanding copyright[edit]

A significant number of your recent file uploads both here and on Commons have been tagged for deletion, and either are already deleted or soon will be. This was done because they are copyright violations. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

Most of your file came from other web sites. You can not take an image from another web site, claim it as your own, and upload it here. Even if you modified the image in some manner (for example, cropping) it still counts as a derivative work and the copyrights on the original image still sustain on the derivative work. You can not release someone's rights without their explicit permission. Pleas see this set of information for more details.

Some of your files came from screenshots of TV programs. Taking a screenshot of the TV program and saving it to your computer does not transfer rights from the copyright holders of the TV program to you. Their rights sustain. While you might have done some work in creating the screenshot, the originating work is still encumbered with rights from the original party. You can not waive their rights without their explicit permission. Please see this set of information for more details.

In the future, if you have even the slightest doubts about the copyright status of an image, please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions before uploading. Editors who consistently upload copyright violating content despite warnings are blocked from further editing. That applies here and at Commons. --Hammersoft (talk) 17:23, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Better source request for File:CurtisAllgier.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:CurtisAllgier.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. --Geniac (talk) 16:05, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

August 2012[edit]

Thank you for your recent contributions, such as Round Island (Ohio). Getting started creating new articles on Wikipedia can be tricky, and you might like to try creating a draft version first, which you can then ask for feedback on if necessary, with less risk of deletion. Do make sure you also read help available to you, including Your First Article and the Tutorial. You might also like to try the Article Wizard, which has an option to create a draft version. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 22:02, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for August 20[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited Round Island (Ohio), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Fairfield County (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

The article Noah Spence has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Speedy deletion contested: 2014 Peace Cup[edit]

Hello Stubbleboy, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of 2014 Peace Cup, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: A1 doesn't apply here; there is an external link, *title*, navbox, etc. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. —Theopolisme (talk) 21:45, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

So you contested the speedy deletion because you felt since the article included a single external link that gave it sufficient context to identify the subject of the article? Looks like it's been re-tagged either way. Thanks. Stubbleboy 22:20, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes; I did. Identifying the subject of the article means knowing who/what the article is about, in layman's terms. Let me know if you still need clarification. —Theopolisme (talk) 00:34, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Ruth Crisp[edit]

Dear Stubbeboy, I am a little disappointed in the speedy deletion of the little article on Ruth Crisp. The article although short seemed well sourced to me. Other sources can easily be found eg Jonathan Crowther's excellent guide to into the top crossword setters which has a couple of pages on Crisp and the BBC which had a national radio programme with a segment on Crisp. Two obits. in national newspapers which were used as refs. in the article seem to me enough anyway. Best wishes (Msrasnw (talk) 22:15, 30 January 2013 (UTC))[reply]

Following an unsuccesful wait for feedback from you and User:Phantomsteve and following advice from Malik_Shabazz I have requested a Deletion Review. Best wishes (Msrasnw (talk) 11:40, 2 February 2013 (UTC))[reply]
Sorry about that, Msrasnw! I would have gotten back to you sooner, but I had something going on in RL. I think it's great that you asked for the review, and I see that the article now has even further references. You know, that's really awesome that you would take responsibility for an article that you created like you have here, Msrasnw. I could escalate the scenario further and place it on AfD review, but I'm not going to do that. You did a fantastic job of appropriately defending the article, and for that I'm now convinced that Ruth deserves her spot right where it was. Thank you for being such a great editor, if only more could be like you! Take care! Stubbleboy 02:15, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Pope Francis Coat of Arms.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Pope Francis Coat of Arms.png. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 22:03, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Pope Francis Coat of Arms.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Pope Francis Coat of Arms.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:25, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Michigan State Miracle requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organized event (tour, function, meeting, party, etc.), but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. October 2015[edit]

It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on a biased choice of users' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote—in order to influence Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michigan State Miracle. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Wikipedia's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. Thank you. —Bagumba (talk) 04:09, 19 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • There's some more commentary on that canvassing bit and I urge you to take notice of it. Even if a message is neutral, sending a message to a selective audience falls foul of CANVAS too. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 01:22, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
