Replaceable non-free use File:Doug flag.svg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Doug flag.svg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kys5g talk! 16:43, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your reverts[edit]

I'm a bit perplexed by your reversions. None of my edits removed anything, they simply reduced the post-expand include size of the templates so that they will appear properly. Your reversions mean that those templates no longer appear correctly on pages like 2023 in American soccer. --Ahecht (TALK

@Ahecht: The mass substitution of templates is not an appropriate way to fix this issue, especially if there are further issues down the line. These edits bloated the articles and make them harder to load for editing as well, which is a real issue for contributors with poor internet connections or older hardware. The PEIS issue needs to be addressed within the existing templates, which are more convenient for editors to use and make later fixes much easier to implement. SounderBruce 01:24, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's the nesting of templates, especially flag templates, that are the problem, not the outer templates themselves. Instead of implementing a solution, you just re-broke the pages. --Ahecht (TALK

You're going to need to explain this more clearly, because the article as it is now doesn't throw up any obvious errors. I do not see a reason to add a ton of extra wiki markup that duplicates {{goal}} and other repeated templates in 2023 in American soccer. SounderBruce 05:16, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for List of Seattle Reign FC seasons[edit]

On 21 June 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article List of Seattle Reign FC seasons, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Seattle Reign FC have had three name changes during their 11-year history? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/List of Seattle Reign FC seasons. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, List of Seattle Reign FC seasons), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Sunday June 23 Strategic Wikimedia Affiliates Network meeting (WMF BoT statement on Movement Charter ratification)[edit]

Hi SounderBruce, I just got the notice for this a few minutes ago on my Meta talk page.

Please see meta:Strategic Wikimedia Affiliates Network/2024 06. Peaceray (talk) 16:56, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a little confused by your repeated reverting of the Citation bot.[edit]

As far as I can see, you are only creating more, unnecessary work for yourself. Everytime you revert the bot's change, such as you have done on MLS Cup 2020, you are seting a timer for when the next person comes along and requests the bot look at those articles, which will inevitably happen eventually regardless of what either of us do. Wouldn't it just make more sense to let the bot's changes stand and move from there? Superegz (talk) 23:29, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Superegz: The bot is at fault, and I have made several attempts to ask its maintainers to fix the one nagging little problem (which only affects WaPo articles) to no avail. The switch in parameter names causes issues with the scripts and workflows I use to maintain these articles, which attract the occasional sneaky bit of vandalism. Frankly, I think that the Citation bot interface needs to be overhauled so that users have to choose what changes are made and take full responsibility for them, as this is not the only issue that has been created by bot overuse.
