User page fiasco, and overprotective admins

  • Original titles, "ANI notice," and later, "Concern about your user page."

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Help remove child's name and picture from wikipedia. Thank you. Equazcion (talk) 00:57, 6 Mar 2010 (UTC)

Nothing personal but I removed your photo and name from your userpage per WP:CHILD and WP:MYSPACE I know it may seem a little over-protective but there's been quite a bit of hype regarding pedophiles / pederasts here (recent arbcom rulings and all) and since you self-identified as a minor you evidently need protection per policy. Nefariousski (talk) 01:00, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Which has been reverted per discussion on ANI. Toddst1 (talk) 01:05, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Brian, although this is a gray policy area, you should consider removing your photo and/or the link to an article that states your high school name. It could possibly constitute a safety issue. Equazcion (talk) 01:10, 6 Mar 2010 (UTC)

If you're under 18, then yes, please remove your pic. If you're 18 or older, just say so and people will leave you alone. Woogee (talk) 01:14, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
People should be leaving him alone already. People under 18 are still allowed to post what they like, even photos. He doesn't seem to be a child that needs forceful protection. Let's leave him alone. Equazcion (talk) 01:19, 6 Mar 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I definitely agree with this. This is all much ado about nothing. Sorry for all of this, Brian. Woogee (talk) 01:21, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Brian, I'd like to apologize for the edits, please realize I did so in good faith based on my interpretation of WP:CHILD. Write me up when you turn 21 and I'll buy you a beer. Nefariousski (talk) 01:33, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

First off, KBPS (AM) is in fact my employer, not just the station at my school. I guess technically Portland Public Schools is my employer (that's what it says when I get paid), but that's not the point. My intention was not to name my school (as it never is mentioned on the page) but to name my accomplishments at my school. Also, my full name is just my full name, it is not much of a give away to have it posted. It is publicly accessible through other means. I appreciate the concern, and I assume nothing but good faith. Thanks (comments were not directed at any user in particular, just at large to anyone who had a concern). --Brian Halvorsen (talk) 06:24, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

You do know that if the real (or an imposter) Brian Halvorsen complains that you will need proof of your identity unless you want to change your user name. This is why users can't use names like User:Barack Obama or User:Joe Biden. Most likely, the real (or imposter) Brian will not come to WP and complain so you are ok. Keep up the good work. Qpwoeial (talk) 21:44, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

What in the world are you talking about? Please don't add nonsense to my talk page. I have been around since 2007 and have been active since July of last year. I do good work here and have for some time (as proof by my work at "Did you know?") and I would appreciate it if you would stop trying to get me protected. I'm in no need of hand holding. --Brian Halvorsen (talk) 05:02, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
Sounds like Qpwoeial is referring to a slightly misconstrued version of Wikipedia's policy on usernames. You're not allowed to have a celebrity username, unless you can prove that you are that celebrity (see WP:REALNAME). This doesn't apply to all names, only famous ones. You should be fine, Brian, unless your name actually is referring to a celebrity I haven't heard of. Equazcion (talk) 06:10, 7 Mar 2010 (UTC)

Visual edition of the Oregon COTW featuring the Glass Palace

Hello WikiProject Oregon member, time for a new edition of the Collaboration of the Week. Thank you to those who helped out the last few weeks improving Oregon Coast Aquarium and Arvydas Sabonis. Also thank you to those few of you helped with the attempt to celebrate Women's History Month with Barbara Roberts and Ursula K. Le Guin.

This week we have by request the Memorial Coliseum that has been in the news a lot lately, and then one of the more important political figures in our state's history, Douglas McKay. The MC needs some ref work and EL work, and McKay really needs a lot more sourcing. As always, click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW.
