Welcome[edit]

Hello, DrakeKobra, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} and your question on your user talk page, and someone will show up shortly to answer. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on talk and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Ourai т с 21:14, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning IP vandals is fun and easy. You essentially treat them like other users, by leaving a message on the IP's talk page (such as [[User_Talk:127.0.0.1]]). Vandalism templates are common, and here they are, with a brief description:

If it's a test edit or something and not vandalism: {{subst:test|PageName}} ~~~~
If it's innocent-looking removal of content: {{subst:test1a|PageName}} ~~~~
If it's blanking a section: {{subst:test2a|PageName}} ~~~~
If it's adding utter nonsense: {{subst:test2|PageName}} ~~~~
This is the first vandalism warning proper, for edits that are clearly vandalism: {{subst:test3|PageName}} ~~~~
For flagrant vandalism: {{subst:blatantvandal|PageName}} ~~~~
The "Last Warning": {{subst:test4|PageName}} ~~~~

If, after adding the appropriate messages on the IP's talk page, they still continue, your best bet is to leave a message at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Overall, though, the best strategy is to wait a day or so. Most IP vandals, unless they're persistent, will vandalize a page constantly for a few hours, then lose interest and go somewhere else, at which point you can revert back to the last good version and call it a day.

Hope that helps! Ourai т с 23:05, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
