English: South African Anglican Bishop Desmond Tutu making a speech in Los Angeles. Original caption: "
Lashing out against apartheid—South African Anglican Bishop Desmond Tutu gestures while addressing a responsive crowd of 3,000 at USC. Tutu, who has been touring the United States for two weeks in an effort to improve the lot of blacks in his home country, told reporters after the rally that if conditions have not improved by the end of March he will begin publicly urging nations other than the United States to impose economic sanctions on South Africa. Until now he has avoided such statements for fear they could lead to his arrest at home.
