Kwynten LaVelle Kelley (born January 4, 1984), known by his stage name Kayo Hustle, is an American rapper, record producer, and entrepreneur from Southeast San Diego, California. He is a member of the rap group the Three Rappers..[1] along with rappers, MassV (pronounced Massive) and Play B. He performs solo with eight solo albums and many singles. He is the CEO of Go Reala Music Group[2]

Biography

A native of San Diego, Kayo got his start performing as a teenager in the night clubs around town. His mother, DK, as she was known around town as, was a popular club promoter and she would often book Kayo and his friends to open for the acts her and her partners would book.

In 2002, Kayo graduated from Mt Miguel High school in Spring Valley, California, a suburb of San Diego, and moved to attend Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana. After the first year, Kayo decided to take a break from school and start a business.

In 2003 he started a record label called, "On Fyre Entertainment" with friend and classmate Jeremy Mason. With On Fyre Entertainment, he produced many artist and released a plethora of underground mixtapes. In 2004, a year later, Jeremy Mason turned over his shares of the company to Kayo. In turn, Kayo made On Fyre Entertainment artist, Tank (Terrell Nunnery) and Brick (Allen Brice) partners in the company and gave them Mason's shares to split.

In November 2004, Kayo had his first child. A girl named Kaleah Rose.

Career

In 2006 Kayo decided to put out his first mixtape, "Konfessions of a Kriminal"[3] and had broad local success. At that time, Kayo began working on his first album, "Lifestyle of a Hustler[4]" although it wouldn't be released for some time.

In 2007, Kayo moved back to San Diego. There he continued to sell his mixtapes in the streets. In 2008, he released his first EP, "One Hundred Percent Hustle"[5] which gained him local notoriety.

He hosted the "Daygo Unity Concert"[6] in August of 2008 which unified the Bloods and the Crips in San Diego for a concert. The event was a success despite a non gang related shooting at the end of the event.

That same year Kayo set his sights on Las Vegas, Nevada, because of his success selling CD's on the Las Vegas strip.

In 2010, Kayo released a limited pressing of his first full album, "Lifestyle of a Hustler".[4] He sold all 1,000 copies. Shortly after the release, he had his second child. Another girl, named KaMyah Cheri.

Lifestyle of a Hustler[4] was a success. A song on the album, "Big Dreams" featuring fellow "Three Rappers" group member, MassV, who also produced the record, was synced by Nickelodeon for an episode of "Victorious" entitled "Cats New Boyfriend". This was Kayo and MassV (who went by Mass at the time) first placement.

With the proceeds from the placement, Kayo and MassV started "Go Reala Marketing" in 2012. MassV decided to let Kayo run the company and relinquished his shares to Kayo.

In 2015, Kayo secured distribution from EMPIRE[7] and changed the company name to Go Reala Music Group.[2] In addition he had to add the "Hustle" to his name because there were too many artist with the stage name Kayo. So in 2015, "Kayo Hustle"[8] was officially born, although friends were already calling him "Hustle" or "Huss" because of his notorious reputation for being a hustler.

Under the Go Reala Music Group.[2] imprint, with distribution from EMPIRE,[7] Kayo Hustle put music out from MassV, Play B, C.$, N.O. Tank, as well as his own. He re-released "Lifestyle of a Hustler[4]" in 2015 after securing distribution from EMPIRE[7]

In 2018 Kayo Hustle came up with the "iGot Hustle"[9] concept and in 2022, he made it official by securing the Trademark.[10]

In November 2021 Kayo Hustle released, "Mr. Hustle"[11] under his imprint Go Reala Music Group with distribution from EMPIRE.[7] "Mr. Hustle" did over 1.5 million streams on Spotify[12]

Kayo Hustle has performed with notable industry figures such as Mike Jones, Yukmouth, Devin the Dude, Compton Menace, and Kurupt. He has opened for Morris Day and the Time, Slim Thug, Nick Cannon, T.I., Cotton Mouth Kings, Do or Die, Sauce Waka, E-40, and Too Short. He has released 7 solo albums under his Go Reala Music Group.[2] imprint all distributed by EMPIRE[7]
