The 2023 Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council took place on 4 May 2023 to elect members of Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council in England. This was on the same day as other local elections across England.^[1] One third of the council was elected.^[2] One candidate was elected from each of the council's 22 wards.^[3]

Background[edit]

In the 2022 election, the Labour Party retained a supermajority of seats.^[4]

Labour retained its majority on the council, although lost two seats to the Liberal Democrats.^[5]
