To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 16:26 on 29 May 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems, because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed, determined not to be an error, or the item has rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

  • The Rose Freistater needs to take greater pains to put the context of the fact out of wikivoice. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/her) 00:03, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Theleekycauldron: I think you are correct. Do you have a suggestion for a change? Pinging @Dying: as promotor. Bruxton (talk) 00:10, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This feels like a Wikilaw Bar Exam question... Per WP:BDP, at 114 years and 6 months since Freistater's birth, we presume her to be alive (even if that presumption only lasts till September), so based on pressing BLP concerns I've provisionally changed to ... that the New York City Board of Education said Rose Freistater weighed too much to be a teacher? (Note that the only instance of "too fat" in the article is in a headline, which is not a reliable source.) I welcome better wording. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 00:54, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
oh, sorry! i had previously believed that the words that one person used as a description could be used in a hook without explicitly stating this as long as the words were in quotation marks and the source could be determined from the article. (apparently, i made the same mistake in a recent dyk nomination.) thanks, all, for correcting me.
a slight nitpick: i don't think the board of education stated that freistater could not be a teacher outright, but just not one in their system, which the original hook alluded to with the qualification "in New York City". however, adding a similar qualification to the current hook may be seen as too repetitive, so the current hook is fine by me.

@dying: It ends up being subjective. If it's positive, but not unduly so, you could probably get away with the quotes. If it's neutral, you probably need a "said to be", and if it's negative, you probably need full inline attribution. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/her) 05:04, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
oh, wow, i had no idea there was a gradation. no wonder i had misinterpreted things. thanks for the clarification! dying (talk) 05:59, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am also fine with the current hook, although I do wish the issue had come up earlier so I could've thought about how best to incorporate the newspaper quote. As to the second concern, I think it's self-evident that the New York City Board of Education can only prescribe rules in New York City, so I don't think we need an additional qualifier. Chicago

"1837 – Chicago, Illinois, was incorporated as a city after its population increased in seven years from 200 to more than 4,000."

The article says "On August 12, 1833, the Town of Chicago was organized with a population of about 200.[34] Within seven years it grew to more than 6,000 people" and "When founded in 1833, fewer than 200 people had settled on what was then the American frontier. By the time of its first census, seven years later, the population had reached over 4,000". The figures are different but more importantly the number seems to have been measured in 1840, three years after incorporation - Dumelow (talk)
The Holocaust in Bulgarian-occupied Greece

"1943 – The Holocaust: Almost all Jews in Bulgarian-occupied northern Greece were deported to Treblinka extermination camp to be killed."

The article says "Overall 4,058 of the 4,273 Jews in Western Thrace were arrested during the roundup", which I agree is "almost all". The article also says Bulgaria occupied eastern Greek Macedonia too; the numbers here don't appear to be mentioned. Do the figures include Macedonia or should the OTD blurb read "almost all Jews in Bulgarian-occupied Western Thrace"? - Dumelow (talk) 08:09, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Brazzaville arms dump blasts

"2012 – A series of blasts occurred at an arms dump in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, killing at least 250 people and injuring 2,300 others."

The article gives figures of 300 dead and 2,500 injured - Dumelow (talk) 08:12, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

First Anglo-Burmese War

"1824 – The First Anglo-Burmese War, the longest and most expensive war in British Indian history, began."

Start date of war is not cited. The "longest and most expensive" claim (cited offline) is also dubious. The war was less than 2 years in duration, there are plenty of longer British Indian wars, take a look at List of Anglo-Indian Wars which shows plenty in excess of this. I would also be surprised if the Indian Mutiny didn't cost more for numbers of troops involved and damage caused - Dumelow (talk) 10:19, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
BOAC Flight 911

"1966 – BOAC Flight 911 disintegrated and crashed near Mount Fuji shortly after departure from Tokyo International Airport, killing all 113 passengers and 11 crew members on board."

The casualty figures are given only in the infobox and lead and are uncited - Dumelow (talk) 10:23, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
