I have made a grammar fix on the article - "Pluto, along with the other trans-Neptunian objects, does not qualify as a planet" has been corrected to "Pluto and the other trans-Neptunian objects do not qualify as planets". Please fix this on the Main Page. I also agree with No such user's note above. Please fix both of them on the Main Page. --[[User:Nat682|Nat682]] ([[User talk:Nat682|talk]]) 18:32, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Revision as of 18:32, 31 July 2011

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 22:44 on 29 May 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems, because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed, determined not to be an error, or the item has rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Not so much an error as a complaint that this is pretty poor writing. Reads like a middle-schooler wrote it. Just sayin'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 180.150.197.159 (talk) 01:34, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Especially the following:

"The definition of planet has comprised many different things. Over the millennia, use of the term was never strict and its meaning has blurred to include or exclude a variety of objects. By the end of the 19th century, the word planet had settled into a comfortable working term."

That is atrocious writing. Carcharoth (talk) 02:02, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So... does this count as a TFA bomb? –HTD 12:48, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Nikkimaria (talk · contribs) has made some improvements. Any other suggestions? Dabomb87 (talk) 15:52, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No, it doesn't count as "a TFA bomb"; I'd classify it more as you don't see that anymore at FAC. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:12, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

tomorrow's Parasaurolophus

(see: Wikipedia:Today's featured article/Tomorrow, this is about the entry on the main page, not the real article, which is correct). The "it" in the last sentence can both refer to the crest in the sentence above or the genus. I suggest changing to: The genus was first (...). L.tak (talk) 14:13, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tropical Storm Nock-ten

Number of fatalities has risen to 57, including 5 from China (PRC) and Vietnam. –HTD 14:27, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Asteroid 2010 TK7

I spot a minor problem in the wording of the sentence that may cause difficulty in understanding the meaning: "Asteroid 2010 TK7 is confirmed as the first Earth trojan asteroid discovered." -download ׀ talk 02:36, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest something like "Asteroid 2010 TK7, confirmed as the first Earth trojan asteroid, is discovered." -download ׀ talk 02:40, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
But its discovery isn't what is being discussed. That happened in October of last year (that's why it starts with 2010, the year it was discovered) and thus wouldn't be "In the news" this week. What is news is the fact that it was confirmed to be an Earth trojan asteroid after an evaluation of its orbit. --Khajidha (talk) 12:10, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
