deletion

why is a page i just wrote about been deleted? i was just about to add more — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rjodwyer (talk • contribs)

You'll have to tell me what article you're talking about. --Fang Aili talk 00:48, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

this page

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Stansdad — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rjodwyer (talk • contribs)

It was deleted because it did not assert notability, and it could also be considered advertising. You can read more about notability guidelines for online content here. Thanks, Fang Aili talk 00:52, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

i wrote all i could see on the website, i was about to add some more detail and a photograph. its not adversiting the url is called "stansdad" exactly, that's like saying this wiki is advertising http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rjodwyer (talk • contribs)

Even so, you would have to show why you think the website is notable. We do not have articles on every website there is. Thanks, Fang Aili talk 00:57, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User_talk:Rob_Lindsey inappropriate comments

Hi I have been informed of inappropriate accusations about myself and my entries at the above page. You are mentioned and gave advice to google and test the page - which obviously has not happened.

I have updated many pages and am in the process of doing many more. The page mentioned was one of my early pages when I was learning the ropes and the speedy deletion was due to a lack of links rather than the content not being appropriate. I learnt how to link to information and I really take offense at someone saying that an award winning, multi published author is not suitable for wiki or that if such a person is listed it must be by themselves. I am a professional in the area of heritage and am on ministerially appointed committees and have been working in my own time at ensuring that the information on wiki for the Central Victorian Region is accurate. There are several stub pages I have improved, I've sourced and linked others and provided images.

It does worry me somewhat that someone can have something of this nature pop up on google without having checked the facts by clicking on the links or contacting me to see whether his accusation was true or not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.254.125.77 (talk • contribs)

Please be more specific about what you are talking about and what you would like to have happen. I do not understand your concern. --Fang Aili talk 14:33, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1) Unfounded, unchecked accusation made on site which appears in google. 2) Even though the site checks out with the advice you have given and meets wiki notability requirements the comments remain on Rob_Lindsey's page. 3) The presense of these comments once they have been proven wrong are not fair and must surely constitute abuse. Gervo1865 21:58, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you have a problem with the article Clare Gervasoni, you are welcome to edit it. About the "abuse", Rob Lindsey was only considering Wikipedia's guidelines, not attacking you. We have guidelines against people writing about themselves and notability guidelines. Thanks, Fang Aili talk 14:05, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Admin coaching request

Hi, I'm GorillaWarfare and am hoping to receive some coaching to become an admin. If you'd like to coach me, please leave a message on my talk page. You can see my edit count here but don't be surprised when you see that I have 25 edits. That is because I recently forgot the password to my old account, User:Theunicyclegirl. Here is my edit count from my old account. I almost have 2000 edits. I frequently revert vandalism by watching Lupin's filtered RCs. I also like to expand stubs, particularly those relating to cats or dogs. I am very good with user warning templates and speedy deletion templates. I sometimes respond on AFD. Thanks for considering me! --GorillaWarfare talk 16:57, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, I'm full up! I have several new admin coachees, and they're keeping me busy. I don't mind answering questions now and then though, so do ask me if you have a question. Cheers, Fang Aili talk 15:49, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, well thanks at least for telling me. I appreciate it! –GorillaWarfare talk 20:18, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi You have just deleted a article Spike Island Art Space which is an art organisation in Bristol. I was about to go back to edit more and it has been deleted. Why might i ask have you deleted this??

A prompt response would be appreciated

Lori Taylor--Spikeisland 16:24, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Lori. It was deleted because it was written like an advertisement. There are a few other concerns as well: it looks suspiciously like a copyright violation. If the text was copy/pasted from a website, it is probably copyrighted, and Wikipedia cannot accept it. Additionally, since you are the marketing manager for this island, you have a conflict of interest, and probably should not be writing about this subject. If the place is notable, trust that someone else will write about it. Thank you and have a good day, Fang Aili talk 16:30, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Xmind deletion

Hi, yesterday I just want to publish the details about the mind mapping software-XMIND here. But soon it was deleted. So can you tell me what's the problem happened? Thank you very much! Stephen

Hello Stephen. It was deleted because it was written like advertising. Thanks, and have a great Friday. --Fang Aili talk 13:29, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed in your comment on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Klein ISD Vistas High School you mentioned someone needed to improve the article, so I did a rewrite. It is certainly not a featured article candidate, but its an improvement. -- DS1953 talk 02:10, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your support in my Request for Adminship. Unfortunately the nomination did not succeed, but please rest assured that I am still in full support of the Wikipedia project, and I'll try again in a few months! If you ever have any questions or suggestions for me, please don't hesitate to contact me. Best wishes, --Elonka 06:31, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why was my page on Murder Rock Golf Club deleted?? I worked for 30 minutes on that for a freakin school project and now it's lost. I did my internship there this summer and there was hardly any information on it on the internet. What gives? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Coasterbill42 (talk • contribs)

Because it was written like advertising. If you would like a copy for your personal use, please email me. --Fang Aili talk 02:35, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How the heck was it advertising? I worked for 400 freakin hours on that course so far this summer and I was trying to let people know that there was a new course opening this fall.

Yes I would like a copy of it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Coasterbill42 (talk • contribs)

"Murder Rock provides its patrons with an impressive Clubhouse constructed at the highest elevation of the Branson Creek Development for a magnificent view." ... that's certainly advertising language. If you would a copy of the article, please email me. --Fang Aili talk 02:44, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's true, It is sitting on the highest elevation within 20 miles of the golf course. Would I lie about that? How about changing it to " Murder Rock's clubhouse sits on the highest elevation on the Branson Creek property." And yes, I would still like a copy so I can "Unadvertise" it and put it back on here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Coasterbill42 (talk • contribs)

I'm not saying you're lying. Again, if you want the article, please email me. There's a link in the toolbox, on the left of the screen. If you submit the article again ("unadvertised"), please also be sure it meets notability guidelines. Thanks, Fang Aili talk 18:40, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Spoo FAR has gone to FARC, but it doesn't look like previous comments to "keep" apply to the FARC (I don't get it either). If you are so inclined, it could use your !vote. How Long

How long will I be wating for a Admin Coach? I'm currently 65th in the waiting list for an admin coach. --MacMad 06:08, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

As well, I had forgot slightly about the Admin Coaching, do I now have to add my name at the bottom of the active list? themcman1 talk 13:38, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, on your name in older requests, say you would like to reactivate your application. --MacMad (talk · contribs)  16:57, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just put it in the active requests section. Also, it is not necessary to wait in line. It doesn't work that way. You can try to contact one of the available coaches--check the status page for available coaches (those without coachees right now), or you can message someone who might take on additional coachees. --Fang Aili talk 00:22, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Applied Biosystems

Hello Fang Aili, On May 24, 2007 you deleted Applied Biosystems, Inc. citing {{db-advert}}. I intend to create a good new history page with good refs for this pioneer biotech and biochem instruments company, as a buildup to a new/same page for a major uncompleted company in ‎Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/List of notable companies. But before I get too deeply invested into it, I want to make sure it doesn't just get deleted. Just browsing on the surface of Wikipedia, it seems to have a singnificant history, as to notability, based on the "what links here" wikilinks, which are pretty substantial, for a never created/deleted page:

  • ABI (links)
  • Foster City, California (links)
  • DNA sequencer (links)
  • Leroy Hood (links)
  • List of genetics research organizations (links)
  • DNA sequencing (links)
  • PerkinElmer (links)
  • User:Ceyockey/List of companies by publication mention (links)
  • Talk:Oxoglutarate dehydrogenase (links)
  • Image:Str profile.jpg (links)
  • User talk:Tzyyga (links)
  • Robert Brownlee (chemist) (links)

Well, frankly, just based on this quick New York Times source that I just found, I am going to move forward with creating the page:

http://partners.nytimes.com/library/national/science/062700sci-genome-history.html

"The concept of Celera grew from a surprising source, a company then known as Applied Biosystems, which made the principal brand of DNA sequencing machine used by the consortium's centers." Steven Russell 21:24, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

Just checking to see if you're still around. How are things? Dreadstar 01:35, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I began to post information on a singer, Kristin Mainhart, but it was deleted. It was a bio on the singer, who has made contributions to various television soundtracks (including a recent inclusion on FX's Dirt). I hadn't gone back to update it with pictures, musical contribution links and stuff (I'm new to the codes, etc.). This artist is just like Amy Winehouse, whose bio appears to be in tact. If you could offer an explanation as to why it was deleted, it would be greatly appreciated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vpc123 (talk • contribs) 17:30, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

At the time it was deleted because it did not assert notability, and was written in a promotional manner. It has since been recreated and is up for deletion. You have already commented at the link above. Cheers, Fang Aili talk 18:18, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Erica!

Long time no see, dear Erica! :) What a wonderful surprise it was to see you again, and as a nominator of Dreadstar no less! Wolfbund

Hi there Fang,

I have a question, I've been trying to place the following link * Wolfbund on various articles like (Galdr) and (Seidr) but they don't seem to be there when I go back to look at it later, say during a google search. Any advice?

V —Preceding unsigned comment added by Runvitnir (talk • contribs) 16:39, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They are probably being removed because they are considered spam. Links should be directly relevant to the subject at hand. Cheers, Fang Aili talk 13:33, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dreadstar RfA thanks

Award time!

For years of silent, yet extremely hard effort for the best of our project, and still finding the time to coach and nominate excellent editors for RfA, I present you with this little star. Modest as it is, and knowing you deserve so much more, may this be a token of my admiration and gratitude to you, my dear Erica! :) Love, Phaedriel 21:55, 18 September 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Can you review me?

Hi. I know you may be busy but you seem to be an experienced editor and admin. I am currently trying to gain differing opinions about my editing so that I can improve and your help would be greatly appreciated. If possible, could you please review me at Wikipedia:Editor review/Tbo 157. I will be on a wikibreak for the next week so I may not respond until next week to any messages or review comments. Thanks. Tbo 157(talk) (review) 10:22, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure I will have time; my online time is minimal these days. I read Random Editor's comments though; they're good. Just try to expand your knowledge and experience. Always use an edit summary. And wait at least a few months before trying for RfA. Cheers, Fang Aili talk 00:02, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I just removed the AfD from this article, Ernest Emerson. I just think it would be prudent to wait until tomorrow, when the article is no longer featured on the main page. I'm not going to be online a lot today, and I don't want to argue a lot about this, so if someone reverts me that's ok. I just think a little caution is warranted when the article is going to be seen by thousands of people today. Have a good day, Fang Aili talk 12:33, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article should never have been given FA status and you know it. The RFD does go back regardless of IAR whatever that may be. Albatross2147 12:41, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not interested in arguing the merits of the article. My only issue right now is the fact that a main-page article is going to have a deletion notice on it. Frankly, this looks terrible. This article has had featured status since March and I see no reason why we must discuss its possible deletion right now. --Fang Aili talk 12:45, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So if it's OK if an article is substandard just so long as it has FA status? I don't think so. You obviously have some issues being an Admin if you operate in such a high handed way. Perhaps you should submit to a review yourself? However I am prepared to compromise. Will you personally restore what you have reversed? Albatross2147 12:52, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see you seem to be living adjacent to the subject in Wisconsin. Is this clouding your judgement in this case? Albatross2147 12:54, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There's no reason to be argumentative. For the record, I'd never heard of Ernest Emerson before.
I will post a summary of events at the Emerson talk page. If someone else (not you or I) wants to restore the AfD, I have no problem with that. This will be my last post on the matter. --Fang Aili talk 12:56, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your role as Admin

So you don't want to talk about EE any longer - fair enough. So let's review your actions and the way you have used your Admin status today. First of all the Deletion notice states clearly that it should not be removed. So what policy gave you the right to do this? So far you have only cited another editor's view that it might look a bit odd. You have not clearly enunciated your reasoning ie. I queried what an IAR was and you did not explain this. Where does it say that an Main Page FA cannot have a deletion notice? Albatross2147 13:27, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have clearly stated my reasoning on the Emerson talk page. I have no interest in arguing with you personally. Thanks, Fang Aili talk 13:29, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great, now Albatross has reinstated a closed and tagged AfD in the article space. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:58, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ernest Emerson Deletion

Will you please resurrect the AfD which you stopped. The article is clearly unencyc and as it stands does not belong here. Any changes are reverted by the article's main author and so can't be cleaned up. Albatross2147 03:42, 4 October 2007 (UTC) i agree Albatross i have tagged the page twice for being a advert and suggested it was cleaned up but mike searson just to undo my tag, surly with so many people agreeing in one poll on the talk page 9 people said it needed changed and only three wanted it left as it was! surly it needs cleaned up! John joskins 08:24, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fang Aili: I think it was a mistake to remove a legitimate AfD tag, even though the article was on the main page. "Looks terrible" is disputable, and I think your opinion is wrong. I think it makes us look more legitimate than if we featured a puff piece without comment. An AfD on, say, today's front-page Kingdom Hearts page would look terrible, but for questionable articles that somehow slipped past the FA process (which IMO is obviously shoddy based on a couple of recent FA's), I think it strengthens our credibility. Anyway, please restore it now. Tempshill 16:54, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't object to running an AFD now that it's off the main page, but they are most certainly not allowed on the daily featured article. Raul654 20:55, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Raul. --Fang Aili talk 21:00, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Erica, I'd like to let you know, that I don't think there was anything wrong with your suspension of the AfD while it was on the main page, regardless of how the AfD turns out. Also this isn't the first time something like this has happened. [1] this archive from JoanneB's talk page tells that story. :) Happy editing. KOS | talk 04:01, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I support the request for the AdD reinstatement for Ernest Emerson. The article is an advertorial, pure and simple. Excalibur 09:40, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for helping out with cleaning up the prose in the Emerson article. I didn't realize it until you did it but as a knife collector "Art knives" means something different than it would to the average person, "decorative" might seem more fitting to folks who only know knives by what's in their kitchen drawers. Thanks also for the level-headedness and your honesty per the AFD, even though I don't agree with it; I know you were put in a tight spot by a vocal minority. For what it's worth, I have never had an objection to cleaning up prose in the article; only people removing citations and references, very few people will pitch in and help...most prefer to wave their arms and throw rocks. Regards--Mike Searson 03:32, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for leaving me a message! I appreciate your honestly also.
I just made more edits to the intro-- tried to make it flow a bit better, and took out some of the more advertise-y language. I took out the sentence about him being a sought-after instructor, etc, because the article doesn't talk any more about that. I also don't think the guitar line should be in there because there's only another sentence or two about that in the entire article.
Really, the article needs to be more about the man and less about his knives. W.marsh put it best on the talk page: "A proper encyclopedic biography puts a person in a historical context, compares him to his peers, explains his legacy.." .. and the article is far from doing that at this time.
Anyways.. these are just my ideas. I'm going to bed now. :) --Fang Aili talk 03:44, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Again, thanks. Like I had said earlier...this was originally 2 articles (other was called Emerson Knives)and this one contained a paragraph or 2 referncing the other one. One editor demanded the two be merged into one and I had been working on Combat Systems as a seperate piece...so all three were combined. The guitar section was a bit longer, but it was trimmed back for notability (it only debuted in June of this year!), so it probably looked out of place in the introduction.--Mike Searson 03:53, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
