The Shot in the Back (Ukrainian: По́стріл у спи́ну) — monument in memory of Red Army soldiers who died fighting the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) during the Soviet occupation of Ukraine that occurred during World War II. The monument was installed in Soviet Square in the city of Simferopol, Ukraine, and funded by the Communist Party of Ukraine. Opening was held on 14 September of 2007.

History of the monument

The author of the monument is sculptor Eugene Yablonsky. The monument consists of two figures - men and a women. The female figure is trying to hold up the man, "fatally struck by a treacherous shot in the back."[1]

On the base of the monument the following writing is present: "In memory of the victims of the Soviet people who died at the hands of fascist accomplices - soldiers of OUN-UPA and other collaborators"[2]
