The Revolutionary Communists of America (RCA), is the US section of the International Marxist Tendency (IMT), a Trotskyist political international.

History

Supporters of the Committee for a Marxist International (as the IMT was then known) founded "Youth for International Socialism" as the United States section in 1998, and its publication, New Youth.[2][3] In June 2002, the founding congress of the Workers' International League was held and the section's newspaper, Socialist Appeal, was also founded. The group itself became better known by the name of its newspaper.[4][5] In 2017, the WIL renamed its newspaper to Socialist Revolution (SR) and the group was publicly known by this name.[6] In 2024, the WIL renamed its newspaper to The Communist and itself to the Revolutionary Communists of America,[7] as part of an IMT-wide rebranding of itself and its sections using orthodox Communist nomenclature and symbols such as the hammer and sickle.[8]

Logo used when the group was Socialist Revolution (2017-2024).

After the rapid growth of the Democratic Socialists of America following the 2016 United States presidential election, many SR members joined DSA chapters.[9] In contrast to the DSA's current strategy, in which virtually all elected DSA endorsees won on the Democratic Party ballot line, SR members demand "an immediate and total break with the Democrats".[10]

Positions

The conservative website Campus Reform negatively covered the SR's "Socialist Solution to Fight COVID-19" events[11] and "Marxist School" events,[12] where the TPUSA reporter noted that the Socialist Revolution organizers "allegedly called for a revolution".[12]

Both the IMT as a whole and the RCA in particular deny the Big Bang, which RCA calls "an idealistic notion of an origin to the universe"[13] and a "modern creation myth".[14]

The World Socialist Web Site, a member of competing Trotskyist political international International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI), called SR a "pseudo-left organisation" for using the phrase "Russian imperialism".[15]

The British comrades were the first to cross the 1,000 threshold – but given the levels of growth in last year in sections like Italy (25 percent, to 515 comrades), Canada (70 percent, to 668 comrades) and the USA (85 percent, to 630 members)

But we are convinced that the irrational side of the [Big Bang] theory—the idealistic notion of an origin to the universe; of a moment of creation of matter, space and time; and all the absurd mathematical patch ups that keep the theory going—all that will be forced to give way under the weight of observational evidence, and scientists will once more recognize that the universe is infinite and eternal, and that matter can neither be created nor destroyed.

But far from exalting God's creation, the JWST is now beginning to send back data that poses serious difficulties for that modern creation myth: the Big Bang theory. As it looks deeper into space, it is beginning to challenge long-held prejudices about the origin and development of the universe and shedding a brilliant light on profound and important scientific and philosophical questions.
