On February 12, 2024, a shooting occurred on the New York City Subway's 4 train and at the Mount Eden Avenue station in the Highbridge neighborhood of the Bronx at 4:38 pm EST, resulting in one dead and five injured.[1][2]

Incident

The incident started as a verbal dispute between two groups in the 4 train. The verbal dispute escalated violently and resulted in gunfire while inside the train, with at least 19 shots fired. The violence continued outside of the train at Mount Eden Avenue station.[3][4]

Victims

According to police, a 34-year-old man died, and two women and three men aged between 14 and 71 sustained injuries.[5] Two of the wounded were teenagers. All wounded victims are in stable condition.[6]

Investigation

Investigators have found three suspects involved in this incident and has identified one of the suspects. Mayor Eric Adams has said that he will "solve the crime" and "bring the people responsible to justice."[7]

Suspects

A 16-year-old boy has been taken into custody after he was identified as one of the three suspects involved.[8] He was charged with five counts of attempted murder and one count of criminal possession of a weapon.[9]
