Statements with no timeframe[edit]

There are articles about historical events which have claims with no time period mentioned for it. If we want to inform editors to find the timeframe of an event in the past, Can we use this template?

Example: (The southern province had a population of 200,000 people).PAper GOL (talk) 16:40, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

See {{Clarify timeframe}}. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 12:20, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Should there be a 'reason' parameter[edit]

Per MOS:SEASON:

Do not use seasons to refer to a particular time of year (winter 1995) as this would be ambiguous; the seasons are six months apart in the northern and southern hemispheres; winter in the northern hemisphere spans two calendar years, as does summer in the southern hemisphere; and areas near the equator have only wet and dry seasons. Unambiguous alternatives include early 1995; the first quarter of 1995; January to March 1995; spent the southern summer in Antarctica.

I'd like to use {{Clarify timeframe}} in circumstances where seasons are used to specify a timeframe, but the template as it currently exists does not support adding information to the displayed text that would let other editors know the reason why a more specific timeframe is needed. It would be helpful to have a |reason= parameter similar to other inline templates (e.g., {{clarify}}) to add that information. For example:

{{clarify timeframe|date=March 2024|reason=Seasons should not be used to refer to a particular time of year (see [[MOS:SEASON]])

could appear as: [timeframe?] Alternatively, the specified |reason= could replace the standard text rather than just append to it. I could use {{clarify}} but thought this template would be more appropriate. Is this worth pursuing or is {{clarify}} or another alternative available that would be preferred? If adding |reason= to this template, would it make sense to add the |pre-text= and |post-text= parameters that {{clarify}} also supports?  — Archer1234 (t·c) 05:58, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Archer1234: Several inline cleanup templates describe a |reason= parameter; few actually make use of it (Template:Clarify is an exception in that respect). It's primarily there so that something is visible in edit mode. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:54, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
