English: Crossyne guttata, Amaryllidoideae. The plant is deciduous. For the first three to five years or so, the seedling grows narrow, fringed, semi-erect strap-shaped leaves, but then it begins to produce very broadly strap-shaped leaves, still fringed, that lie flat and smother competing plants. At first about four flat leaves appear in a season, but as the bulb grows it attains a considerable size, over a litre in volume, and in later years it might prodice 6-10 leaves in a season. A specimen may last decades in the wild if not disturbed. This photograph shows a fairly fairly young specimen, perhaps 5-7 years old. It flowers in late winter or early spring before the leaves appear.
